macOS Sierra freeze on iMac late 2009 using Safari

Hey guys,

Since the installation of macOS Sierra on my iMac 27 inch late 2009, I'm experiencing freezes of the computer with the following symptoms:

- the freeze occurs when I scroll a webpage in Safari.

- The mouse cursor still moves but I can't click and manipulate the system ; the keyboard doesn't work, as well.

- A force reboot is mandatory to recover.

- I can establish a ssh connection from my MacBook to the iMac, suggesting that Darwin is still running well.

- The log indicates "userspace_watchdog_timeout.spin report for WindowServer version", suggesting that the problem is related to a crash of the WindowServer.

Somebody here with the same machine has the same problem?

Thanks!

VIN,iMac (27-inch Late 2009), macOS Sierra (10.12)

Hello,

as you can see in this entire discussion, there is obviosly no solution for this problem right now. My experience is don't use Safari and you will not have this kind of freeze on an iMac late 2009. I'm using firefox the latest version. But I must confess Safari is much more faster and responsive. Also Chrome works without problems ralted to this issue.

Best regards!

I'm also very angry because if the freeze happens and you have iTunes open for instance, the iTunes library gets corrupt every time and gets checked at the next reboot required to get out of the freeze. I also experience rebuilt of the spotlight index which obviouls gots als corrupt. Very very bad experience.

@Apple: if you like you can get my sysdiagnose_2016.11.22_15-05-55+0100_1530.tar.gz file (>300MB) I was able to create using the cmd-opt-ctrl-shift-period key stroke after I logged in via ssh from my other mac directly after freeze.

Best regards!

Hello Apple,

How about a lonesome hint if anybody of you is listening to this forum or mayby working on this problem?

Would be nice.....

There is no feedback loop on the forums, if you really want this fixed the best thing you can do is to sign up for the macOS Public Beta @ https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/and use the Feedback Assistant to report this bug. If people would post less on the forums and send more feedback this bug would get prioritized and fixed faster (one could hope).
