iPhone 7 Headphones not working

My iPhone 7 only works 1/2 of the time with the headphone to lightning jack. I have to answer or start a call, then I can plug in my headphones. If I start the call with the headphones in, no one can hear me.

Anyone else notice this issue?

iPhone 7, iOS 10.0.2

Just got new lightning earphones, but when I tried plugging into iPad, played through speakers.

Fix: shut dow iPad, restart with lightning earphones plugged in (I'm not sure if that is really required, but it worked for me). Sound now plays through lightning earphones on iPad (iPad Pro 12", iOS 10.2).

Even I was facing the same issue, whenever I tried to plug in the headphones and tried to listening the music, always I was disappointed as there was no sound nor nothing, except the headphones plug in and plug out sound. I tried a lot but the problem was unresolved.

Also, gifted myself with a new headset but still no improvements, which only made me disappointed and angry, as I had bought this iPhone 7 plus just 3 months back and this is the problem I'm struggling to overcome.

It was unclear and uncertain, until I thought of giving a try and decided to take chances.

1) I connected my headphones with one of my friends handset and it was working just fine. This made me think that the headphones are all okay.

2) I tried to see if there is a problem with my Bluetooth and that the sound is getting diverted, but it wasn't. I scrolled up the control pannel tapped on the airplay mirroring which showed no device.

3) I scrolled up the control panel and under the volume you see a iphone logo , I tapped on it and selected iphone.

4) settings>sound and haptic> ringer and alerts >change with buttons option : tapped and made it ON.

5) Then at last Opened Settings > Music > Volume limit: increased the volume to MAX, returned back and turned ON the sound check.

6) Switched off the phone and turned the phone On, then connected the headphones and it started working just as it used to work before. This is how my problem got resolved. You too can try and hopefully your problem will also get resolved. Thanks.

I have the same problem thoughout my few years with apple. Most of the time its either the phone jack or the lighting port. Read a lot of suggestions and some work while others dont.

Am gonna list a few things that i tried and would probably works.

Lighting Port: The port's not clean so you may try to use a torchlight to look into the port. Remove all the dusk inside it with a pin or needle. check and scratch gently the pins inside the port to see if there's rust in the pin or dusk between the pins that block the connection to headphones or charging. try to remove them gently.

Lighting Jack: The Jack may have problem when the heads are blocked by dust or rust. Try to clean it with a wet tissue paper first. be gentle though cause if too much material is removed the jack will not work anymore. In extreme cases when it still does not work use a pin to scratch it clean. It may works if the rust is not too deep.

The Charging is especially difficult when it is more easy to rust than the headphone ones as its copper alloy imo. And too much scratching means you gonna need to buy a new one.

The headphone one is easier since its made of aluminium alloy, but rusting still occurs and its almost unnoticeable. so whenever its unable to connect and it still looks brand new, just try to directly scratch it with a pin and its highly likely to work again.

Hope this helps.

Some people said blow into it but that’s going to make it worse in the long run (just like old Nintendo cartridges, you are blowing the dust deeper into the port and your breath has high humidity). Use a vaccum cleaner to suck the port (female end) out or canned air for electronics and a brand new toothbrush (unused) to blow and brush it out. To clean the lightning plug (male end) use a brand new melamine sponge (not a used one from the kitchen) and give each side of the male plug a few good strokes. Then blow it off with the canned air. Works the charm for me.

Hey buddy I tried that fix and it worked one time. It made my earbuds work for about three hours. Then it was back to the same old problem however I’m excited now. I found a solution tonight that I had never heard of before. I chatted with Apple support and they said to restore the phone to factory settings. I had already done that under settings but, they said to go to iTunes and do it. If you do it on iTunes it erases in reloads everything… Under settings On your phone it just eraces.

Well, this is simply absurd! Blowing into the port? Cleaning it? Please, gimme back my good old 3.5 jack!
First of all, I cannot charge my iPhone while I use the headsets without an additional split adapter.

Second, I cannot use my favorite headsets without a lightning adapter.

Third, the worst, if I have the headsets on and I call or receive a call, the headsets are ignored!

Here is not a matter of blowing into the port. If you purchase a €800.00 phone you expect that the MOST FUNDAMENTAL features works! Doesn't matter if you have a vocal assistant or fingerprint recognition.

A phone must, first of all, be a phone, and work as any normal phone is expected.

Period.
