Sierra killed my Canon EOS Utility

Hi,

If anyone at Apple is paying attention, listen up!

You built a computer empire on graphics ability, design, photograph (remember when the majority of you 3% marketshare were arty/designer types banging on to their normal friends and colleague how great Macs were??) - Please include Canon in you development work on new OS, Sierra has killed (an albeit third party) application that people use daily in work, commerce and hobbies Canon EOS Utility no longer works in the final release of Sierra - It worked on the betas until very recently - Now it opens, but doesn't recognise EOS digital bodies!!! No more remote shooting, no more instant 'retina' reviews on screen - honestly I can get that on XP which I have on a partition - WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING AT????!

What tweak was made at the last minute that broke this - why wasn't Canon given a chance to fix this so it could be patched on Sierra launch day?????? What was the huge problem that suddenly appeared too late to allow Canon to look at it? I'm sure Canon would love to closedown it's entire MAC software division and save a reasonable sized fortune in the process - Why give them a reason to do that and tell all their loyal photographers, you know what, we only write Manufacture certified tools and drivers for Windows???

Seems you've also stopped most of the PIXMA printers from working too - You cannot lay the blame solely at Canon's door, you've been developing this OS release for at least a year and probably 3 years in some form - Allow your peripherals partners to keep up?

You don't continue to be the best by not playing well with others.

Annoying sounds right and it sounds like you are not alone. Maybe this thread can help.

1. Recommended card reader with specs including types of CF cards, among others, it reads

2. Have you tried Image Capture app (in Applications folder) as suggested to see if card is recognized.

Otherwise, seems testing diff. USB ports, diff. cables and a diff. card reader. Or, of course, trying a diff. computer are possible solutions.

Best of luck

Apple is not responsible for 3rd party software , Apple does not fix other developers software and support products that those developers have no interest in supporting. When you agreed to install OS X 10.12 you agreed to that weather you read it or not. Canon had OS 10.12 months ago, they had months to develop drivers. They chose to do nothing.

It's not an Apple product. So when does become Apples problem provide a solution to Canons indecision?

Hi Jimmy,

If you read the thread from the top, all the way through, you see that despite the issue initially seeming to stem from suspected Canon dragging their feet - with the release of 10.12.1 the issue with Canon EOS utilities has magically disappeared, without Canon issuing an update - Call be a cynic, but doesn't that point to Apple breaking something then having to fix it - Admittedly Canon has a poor track record with staying in step with Apple updates, but not their fault this time.

As I finished my OP with the line, "You don't continue to be the best by not playing well with others." It seems truer than I expected!

It seems like you resolved your issue after updating to Sierra 10.12.1 correct? I updated to Sierra 10.12.1 and am so frustrated. I use a Canon Mark ii and according to Canon's website it currently isn't compatible with Sierra? When I plug my camera by usb to my MacBook my computer doesn't even recognize it. I have 2 card readers as well and it won't read my CF cards. When I go into disk utility it says they aren't mounted. I have re-formatted them and tried 3 different cards. And still can't download any pics onto my computer. My sister has a new canon with SD card and they both work when connected by usb or card reader to my computer. So I know its not the card readers or USB cords. I tried downloading them to her computer (MacBook with sierra), still doesn't work. I also have an old MacBook (not updated to Sierra) and after re-formatting the cards and using a card reader, it says the cards cannot be read. I'm about to go buy a cheap PC (we have all apple products) because I don't know what to do or how to access my photos. Any ideas??

Hi,

I am having the same problem with my canon 70D and Sierra, so I've upgraded to 10.12.1 and still doesn't work. EOS utilities won't open and I get the error message "cannot be used with this version of the operating system". Am I missing something? I'm wanting to import some CR2 files and edit them - the camera, the photo editing software and Sierra are all new to me, and I may never buy another Mac product again. Can anyone help please?

Do you have version 2.14.20a of EOS Utility installed? (Since you can't run it - you can look at /Applications/Canon Utilities/EOS Utility/EU2/EOS Utility 2.app in Finder and it should have the version info.

If not, download the package from https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/dslr/e os-70d (choose El Capitan or Yosemite since they have nothing released officially for Sierra yet :- / )
