IOS10 Mail FONT Size Issues

Resizing of fonts in email threads was always consistent with IOS9. Not with IOS10. In fact, the font is smaller and makes it difficult to read if you are visually challenged. This is not an improvement and I was very happy with IOS9. Why fix something that is not broke?????

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, BryanCBT.

If I’m understanding your post right, the size of the font of email messages in your Mail app is too small, and you're finding it difficult to read. I'm happy to help you with a solution for this so you can start enjoying Mail in iOS 10.

You can actually very easily change the font on your iPhone in Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size. If you need font sizes even bigger, you can do so in Accessibility settings. Here are the steps:

Make the font even bigger

  1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text (or Larger Type in iOS 7).
  2. Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes (or Larger Dynamic Type in iOS 7) for bigger font options.
  3. Drag the slider to select the font size you want.

Turn on other Accessibility settings

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility to make the text bold, increase the contrast, or invert the colors on your screen.

Change the font size on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
There are also some additional Accessibility features available for vision needs. You can view all of them here: iOS. A wide range of features for a wide range of needs.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care.

Same thing for my company. Many of our older users are now unable to see their emails, particularly ones that originate from an Exchange environment, and thus HTML format. The update released yesterday included this: "Fixes an issue that caused some HTML email to be formatted incorrectly". However, we performed the update and the problem remains. This is really an accessibility option that has been taken away by Apple, which is just short of an assault on the visually impaired. While the option to use the larger fonts via the accessibility options does work in most areas, the one that gets the most use, EMAIL, is left behind.

Apple Support tells me to wait, and that an update should be forthcoming to correct this issue. Case ID: 100051219552

Hopefully, we will get a 10.1.1 to deal with this issue sooner rather than later.

iOS update 10.1 seems to have mostly resolved this problem. I still get a few HTML emails that appear to utilize only part of the screen both in portrait and landscape mode, but I can successfully use a two-finger zoom to fill the viewable area and when switching to landscape after zooming, landscape mode also stays zoomed in. It's a big improvement but not a complete fix.

I have noticed a quirk (bug) in Dynamic Type that may explain why Braden85's suggestion is not producing the desired results. To review, these are Braden85's instructions:

Make the font even bigger

  1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text (or Larger Type in iOS 7).
  2. Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes (or Larger Dynamic Type in iOS 7) for bigger font options.
  3. Drag the slider to select the font size you want.

Turn on other Accessibility settings

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility to make the text bold, increase the contrast, or invert the colors on your screen.

Here is the problem. If you drag the slider to adjust the size of the Dynamic Type it will have NO EFFECT unless you set it to the location shown below, or even further to the right. At least, that's the story on my iPhone 6s+. If I move the slider one "notch" further to the left than shown, the size of the font JUMPS down to a very tiny size.

So, check your settings and see if moving the slider to the position in my screen shot below succeeds in enlarging the font size to an acceptable level.
