iPhone 7 Plus Camera - Pictures are bad

I take the following picture with my new iPhone 7 Plus (only one example).

So as you can see, this is really crap.

What is the problem? Is it a Hardware of Software (10.0.2) issue?

The results of my old iPhone 6s Plus were better...

I sometimes look at past photos taken with iphone 4S, 5S and 6S. Those pictures look nice, good color reproduction, good details. Why do you think Apple sid not show any landscape and colorfull photos in their iphone 7 keynote, like they used to with older models?? They knew that color reproduction is horrible, oil painted and details are crap.

I do not expect a perfect phone, but seriously, I do expect a decent camera!

I want to the Apple Store, they agreed and said

Issue: Customer states that device camera is blurry and pixelated

Steps to Reproduce: Specialist took pictures side by side with known good iPhone 7 plus

Camera is slightly blurrier

Cosmetic Condition: No damage

Proposed Resolution: Will replace camera under warranty

So they replaced the camera, and the photos are still the same watercolor mess they were.... I can't take another day off work for awhile so if I go back I will let you know, but it doesn't seem to be the camera itself.

I have bought iPhone 7 256gb in Finland (Phone did cost 999 euros ~1000 US dollars

) to my wife as a present because she takes lot a pictures. Think it was among with the first phones delivered in here. Her old phone was 6 plus 64gb and the images were brilliant compared to her new phone images! Also my old iPhone 5s take so much better images:/

Have tried every solutions on this thread and nothing have helped. Images are missing all the detail and look so compressed (watercolor-effect /viewed phones display).

Now the phone is changed under warranty to a new one (hopefully get it in the end of the week). I'll report it here, that it helped or not.

Same problem here, and my take on it (have two 7plus phones between my wife and myself), is that the new camera lense is very soft and requires huge amounts of sharpening to look anywhere close to passable. I have same blurry softness when taking DNG RAWs with Lightroom, just without the oversharpened "watercolor" effect. To tell the truth I don't think the previous iPhone cameras were any better, they were lower resolution besides. Bottom line: as Apple is again playing its game of sourcing cheap components for its "hi-end" phones (to keep insanely high profit margins, highest in the industry), and we keep buying them, this is the image quality we are stuck with. No software update is going to fix crappy hardware!

my wife has an iphone 6s plus and it's just as bad. She has been complaining since day one. The 5s might have been grainyer but at least not as smeared. I have a 7plus and when using with lightroom and DNG the pics are not smeary anymore. I did also switch off the "optimize for storage" option in the iphone settings. Lightroom is less intuitive than the iphone camera app but at least the pictures are not as bad. I think its a software / compression thing. Strage that those large "shot on iphone" posters don't have that effect. Makes me wonder.. ?????
