iPhone 7 Plus Camera - Pictures are bad

I take the following picture with my new iPhone 7 Plus (only one example).

So as you can see, this is really crap.

What is the problem? Is it a Hardware of Software (10.0.2) issue?

The results of my old iPhone 6s Plus were better...

I sometimes look at past photos taken with iphone 4S, 5S and 6S. Those pictures look nice, good color reproduction, good details. Why do you think Apple sid not show any landscape and colorfull photos in their iphone 7 keynote, like they used to with older models?? They knew that color reproduction is horrible, oil painted and details are crap.

I do not expect a perfect phone, but seriously, I do expect a decent camera!

Well, those certainly do look terrible at full size. I just went back and looked at a bunch of my pictures from my iPhone 7 at full size and they all look great. Not the slightest fuzziness or pixelation. They are all uploaded to iCloud automatically from my phone. They look just fine when viewed from iCloud using Edge and after being downloaded to my computer and opened in Windows 10 Photos. I wonder if there is some aspect of the download/save process that is degrading images.

Im too having the same issue as you guys. Using the iphone 7+. At first i thought i was expecting too much from low light environment but the blotches and watercolor effect was apparent even outdoors under decent lighting conditions. Indoor photos are totally nothing to be proud of even when compared to my 4s. No elemene of 'sharpness' in the photos at all

I really hope apple does something about this. And with some people having ok results im starting to fear if its an hardware issue. Will try to post photos later today.

Same problem too. I couldn't believe how bad the picture quality is. Watercolor / blotchy lack of detail. Not what I'd expected given the way the camera quality was touted ahead of release. Seems worse than the iPhone 6 Plus I replaced! Hopefully this is acknowledged and addressed by Apple. Based on responses here, replacemnt doesn't resolve the issue, will wait and see.

Same here with my iPhone 7+. Bought it due to the hype about its camera quality. Regretted it as it's so inferior compared to my iPhone 6s+ that I gave to my daughter. Grainy with watercolor effect at times. Tried resetting all settings, restore - all the same. I think with all the comments I read in this thread, it seems that it may be a hardware issue, not just a software one. But Apple techs said it's just the settings, lighting, etc. Tried everything they said but I still can't get the quality I had with my 6s+. I had no problems taking great shots with my iPhone 6s+ with the default settings. Could it be possible that for some of these iPhone 7+ units there has been some batches that slipped through in the factory that were not tested very well? The most difficult thing in the world for me was trying to argue with Apple tech people that it may be a hardware problem. I know Apple is monitoring these threads because some posts here got removed. But I hope they are relaying these complaints to the right Apple department and that they are seriously considering these. If inspite of future problems the camera issue still remains unresolved, then our problem may really be hardware.

On added thought, besides a possible hardware fault, could it be, for many if not all, that it's really about the changes introduced in IOS 10? I wish we can test the iPhone 7+ with an IOS 9 firmware so we can really compare the results. But that's impossible right now. So all we have is wishful thinking that Apple is looking seriously into this.

Yep these horrible pictures posted taken under terrible lighting, no exif data, nor a hint to the forum where the focus was.

For that matter hollow complaining about the most uploaded version of iPhone yet on Photo sites that don't compress your shots like so many here have linked the shots they are complaining about.... yet they are not aware their pictures are compressed. While there very well might be an issue I have yet to see many true problems with pictures other than the way they were taken.

33 page thread and the better Apple Centric web sites/forums have totally ignored it has anyone wondered why? Yet the most respected testing sites have not mentioned anything in their testing other than heavy handed jpg conversion nothing those in photography haven't seen before ( Nikon/Canon).

Good luck to those that truly have an issue.

@chevysales,

This issue is not the way the picture is taken. Do you own a 7+? If so you will notice a watercolor effect on most photos especially in slightly lower lighting, as if the contrast level is boosted strangely. And also there wouldn't be a 33 page thread from people all over the globe if this wasn't a legitimate issue. We are comparing apples to apples here - how the picture looks right on the phone compared to previous iPhones, and actually the 5S exceeds in that. Which does not make sense. I'm used to being able to take crisp, sharp photos and videos and view them across all my apple devices and now they look terrible. Now a video taken indoors in good lighting in "HD" looks grainy and washed out.

As to now Apple centric pages picking up this issue, check: http://forums.appleinsider.com/discussion/196561

This is actually an old article from almost a month ago. There was one more in Forbes about this issue.

I reported this bug to apple and it was closed because it was a duplicate of an already existing report. So my bug report is closed and the original seems to be still open and the rank I see is numer 1 which is high, so let's hope developers have a lot of pizza to work overnight on this 😉
