iPhone 7 Plus Camera - Pictures are bad

I take the following picture with my new iPhone 7 Plus (only one example).

So as you can see, this is really crap.

What is the problem? Is it a Hardware of Software (10.0.2) issue?

The results of my old iPhone 6s Plus were better...

I sometimes look at past photos taken with iphone 4S, 5S and 6S. Those pictures look nice, good color reproduction, good details. Why do you think Apple sid not show any landscape and colorfull photos in their iphone 7 keynote, like they used to with older models?? They knew that color reproduction is horrible, oil painted and details are crap.

I do not expect a perfect phone, but seriously, I do expect a decent camera!

With respect, the people on this bread have tried a lot of different things. Even those who have taken their phones to a Genius Bad and had their camera and handsets swapped see the same issue.

Seriously, I've posted on here that Apple is not really that concerned. I've gone in twice and they just give a new piece of hardware and say they can't do more than that. This issue though was even in their phones in their stores. Props on all of you that are further pursuing this. Hopefully if we raise enough of a ruckus they will actually work on this.

OK, I just got off the phone with Apple.

Very helpful.

I emailed him a copy of my grainy photo and he had me do a restart of my phone, which was holding down the volume fown button and side button until Ibsaw the Apple logo.

After the restart, the grainy-ness of my images around my house was better. Not in low light though.

He said there were other steps to take which would totally reset my phone so I chise to try this out for a few days. I have his direct email address so if I continue havingva problem, I can get to hom firectly and not have to explain my issue to soneone new.

Apple Support is VERY good!!

Might it be useful to post the date of manufacture of our iPhone? We might discover those made after a certain date are more likely to be plagued by this problem. I've used this application (Mac only) to find the manufature date: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutid/. You could also use this website: http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html.

The images from my phone are not too bad, even in low light, but still exhibit some waterpaint effect, though not nearly as much as shown in some of the posts.

My iPhone 7 256GB version was made between 19 and 25 September, apparently.

I'm experiencing this issue also. I took several pictures in NY during the daylight to evening and when you zoom in objects are very blotchy/painting colored. I contacted Apple support through Twitter and they said to reset my phone. This is literally the 3rd time I would be resetting my phone for issues. I'm seeing if there's another way to diagnose because resetting and setting my phone up again takes hours. I ran into a problem pulling from itunes backups and needed to start fresh with my previous issue so i can't use that option. They need to fix this or notice that this is a problem. I've noticed this since the 6 Plus, my 5 never had this issue.

This is my second phone and both have been the same, not sure what the reset will do given I setup both phones as new. Switching off the iCloud photo space optimisation helped viewing pictures on the iPhone itself however on the laptop they're so poor.
