iPhone 7 Plus Camera - Pictures are bad

I take the following picture with my new iPhone 7 Plus (only one example).

So as you can see, this is really crap.

What is the problem? Is it a Hardware of Software (10.0.2) issue?

The results of my old iPhone 6s Plus were better...

I sometimes look at past photos taken with iphone 4S, 5S and 6S. Those pictures look nice, good color reproduction, good details. Why do you think Apple sid not show any landscape and colorfull photos in their iphone 7 keynote, like they used to with older models?? They knew that color reproduction is horrible, oil painted and details are crap.

I do not expect a perfect phone, but seriously, I do expect a decent camera!

I've had my 7 Plus for 3 weeks now. The photos are absolute garbage! The main reason I switched to iPhone from Android was for better photo quality, which I thought was a main selling point for iPhones. The last time I used an iPhone was years ago with the 4s. I swear that those photos from back then are way better than what I'm able to take with my 7 Plus.

I've tried every single option there is to make the photos better but nothing works. I'm shooting in ideal conditions with plenty of sun light.

I just looked up my delivery date. I have about 1 week left from having the phone for a month now. I'm going in to request a refund.

Update: Well that's just wonderful. After looking into the return policy I see it is only 14 days long, rather than a month. What a joke.

Today was my third attempt to try and get this issue closer to a fix. Apparently some engineers "did not see anything wrong" with the samples I provided, so another case was opened and this time with instructions to view the sample images side-by-side at 100 % zoom (or actual size).

I have much faith in the support personnel and we even discussed how this [most probably] is a simple software issue. However my faith in Apple engineers is not so strong since I am aghast how they still cannot see the issue here.

Has anyone here gotten *any* information back on their support requests?

I went to the Genius Bar at the apple reseller in Israel. He saw the problem but the two iPhone 7 plus they had in display also suffered the same issue. He had no advise for me other then full restore through iTunes, install as new phone and see if it works.

Has anyone tried it before I start this annoying process?

Although it is not common, I've serviced iPhones with this issue, it could have different causes.

If you've already tried General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings and this did not resolve the issue, you should take it to your local Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

After reproducing the issue with you, they will set up the device as new, ensure it has no outstanding updates, attempt to replace the camera module, and if all of that fails they will replace the device provided there is no accidental or physical damage.
