My whatsapp restore stuck on Finishing Up... (99%)

i got the same problem. seriously just wanna give up and start with no chat history.

then i saw paolo81 reply. i say why not try that one. so i do exactly like what he said,

1) close WA (while stuck at 99%)

2) open it again and skip the restore option

3) chat history successfully restored with pictures

but no luck. cannot choose skip after close the app. so i improvise,

1) close WA (while stuck at 99%)

2) turn off icloud drive

3) open it again, and got screen that say your backup might be in icloud,please turn on icloud bla bla bla..

and i just skip the restore option ,,and damnnnn

4) my chat history successfully restored with pictures

I had the same issue and I did the following to solve it.

1.) Close WhatsApp.

2.) Go to the App Store and update WhatsApp.

3.) Delete WhatsApp.

4.) Reinstall and restore from iCloud.

It should work fine now.

Had the same problem. We made many tries with restoring from the iCloud (always stuck at 99%) and from the backup on the Mac.

After many tries we have the problem solved now. 🙂

Both iPhones had the same name.

I renamed both of them (iPhone settings/General/About/Name).

Deleted the WhatsApp App on the new iPhone.

Then made a backup of the old iPhone to a Mac (and to iCloud) with iTunes.

On the new iPhone: backup restored from the Mac with iTunes.

I don't know which step was essential. But with this sequence it worked out fine with our iPhone SE / iOS 10.

I've just seen this as mine is doing the same thing but instead of it been stuck on 99%,it's goes to 0% to 99% instantly & then just goes back to my iPhone home screen,has anyone had any luck yet?

I want to help you guys with my experience. I had the same problem too with my Iphone 4, IOS 7.1.2. Here is how it worked for me: Almost a whole day I was trying to restore my Whatsapp data by restoring directly from an Iphone's Icloud and Whatsapp was only just stuck at "99% finishing up". I searched the internet, forums and so on, didn't find any answer. I decided to do it via Itunes on my PC. I plugged the phone to the computer with it's USB cable and did the restore with Itunes. After that with much hope i entered the Whatsapp and began restoring chats and media again. The loading seemed just like before with a few minutes waiting on "99% finishing up", I had thoughts: "Oh please don't do it again", and after a few minutes all the chats appeared on the screen and all the media including pictures and videos started to download to my phone successfully. This method worked for me and i am happy to share it with you guys hopefully that it will work for you too.

I have the exact same issue, mine has been stuck on 99% restore since last Monday... I really don't know what else to do as no one seems to know an answer to this question. I have asked Whatsapp but their communication is all via email and I am waiting on a response...

In my case, I can't do that cause my old phone (5C) doesn't work anymore, had to get a new one (iPhone 5) asap, all of my pics and videos are there, I had to do a factory reset and install iOS 10 to get this far and be stuck at Finishing up 99%. Any other options?

What about rebooting the iPhone and trying again -- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support?

I'm not sure why it does that or what else to suggest except maybe considering reaching out to either Apple or to WhatsApp support.

I can tell you, you're not alone as I have seen others complain of this very same issue, on these forums.

help. i have exactly the same problem and I have alot of work stuff on my whatsapp i need to retrieve my icloud backup.
what's the use of having a backup when it doesnt work?
Apple or whatsapp could you please do something?

I Searched and got a answer that neither apple nor Whatsapp both of these brands are not gonna answer us the are business brands they don't even care about custumers they only want to earn money , , , the only answer is that either this problem solved by next update of these or we are gonna loose our precious data , even Whatsapp support is not replying my mail

HI I had the same problem, since getting back off hols after hours of wasting my life trying to figure out a way to get it back I decided to reset phone to factory settings and then ohine will detect I cloud and log in and all done !!!

make sure you've done a back up before you do factory settings.

I had the same problem of 99% restored going on for ever. and have now solved it.

Ackan is right, thank you Ackan, If you have your iPhone backed up to iCloud you can restore it through iTunes on your computer.

Go to iTunes/iPhone/Summary/Restore Back Up. I just did that and it worked for me.

You get a message that you have to turn 'Find My Phone' off first which is in settings on the phone under iCloud.

I have the same issue on my phone too. My iPhone 6 conked up. Apple replaced my phone last night. (Thsts a different story altogether, where I could have sued apple). I tried to install whatsapp and restore backup. The Whatsapp scren says i have about 1.55 GB of data backup on iCloud and its stuck at 99% since last night. Tried restarting my phone several times. I dont have a physical backup on my computer using iTunes. Whatsapp is only on iCloud. Neither Apple nor WhatsApp is responding to queries. Whats the point of having a service called iCloud, if it can't restore cloud backups, it doesn't even make sense. I am sure both Apple and WhatsApp aren't going to hear us. I am trying to use third party apps to retrieve data from iCloud. Will post updates here if I happen to get lucky.
