OS Sierra Mac Mail attachments missing

In many of my mails the attachments are missing. I have about 10 imap and pop3 accounts in my mac mail.

I use this for work and get 50-100 emails with attachment from different accounts per day.

I know this is a bug, but does anybody already have a practical solution until bug is fixed?

Thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12)

Hi Apple Support,

Can we have your immediate attention here, please? One of main mail features is not working, it's a critical issue.

Cheers,

Slaw

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Rebuild the mailbox for the IMAP account." In Mail, I have Inbox, Sent, etc, for all accounts. Rebuilding the mailbox where I have one of the emails with missing attachments stored (on my Mac) had no effect I could see.

In Accounts settings, I had Download Attachments set to All.

The problem, as far as I can see, is not in the structure of any given mailbox, but that Mail (on the Mac, with macOS Sierra) is not displaying attachments for some incoming emails, no matter what mailbox they're in.

Revisiting kingtw's instructions from Apple Support, I tried the following:

1. Moved a message that appeared to be missing its attachments from an On My Mac mailbox to Inbox using Message > Move to > [my Apple ID inbox]. No attachments showed up.

2. With the Inbox selected, chose Mailbox > Rebuild. Mail indicated it was downloading 45 messages (?). In the test email, attachments (photos) now appeared inline as expected and as seen in Mail viewed in iCloud with Safari.

3. Moved the message back to its proper On My Mac mailbox. Attachments seemed to disappear.

I repeated steps 1 and 2. This time the message showed jpeg icons instead of showing the attachments. Quicklook, Save to Desktop and Export to Aperture did not work for the attachments in this message. Without moving the message, I switched to another app and returned to Mail. The jpeg icons seemed to disappear.

No, the update did not fix the issue and when it didn't, I contacted Apple support again. The representative had me rebuild the mailbox which did result in attachments being present in my emails BUT I am sure it's only temporary. I can almost be 100% sure that the next email that is suppose to have an attachment, the attachment will not be accessible from my Mac. However, she did tell me that they are well aware of the problem and the engineers are working on fixing it. So to be on the look out for a new update. So, in the meantime....I have faith they will fix it as soon as possible.

I was missing all PDF attachments in one of my IMAP accounts since upgrading to Sierra. This could be resolved temporarily by rebuilding the mail account (Mail->Mailbox->Rebuild) but the problem kept coming back.

I then noticed that my mail was also very slow and noticed the 'connection logging' was enabled. I could see this in the top bar next to the mailbox name. I disabled this by unchecking 'Log Connection Activity' in 'Mail->Window->Connection Doctor'. My problem with slow mail immediately cleared up and magically all of my missing PDF attachments were back and new ones come in like normal.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it 😉
