How do I get rid of the widgets screen?

Since upgrading to iOS 10, a widget screen shows up when I start my phone. How do I get rid of that so my passcode/touch ID screen shows up when I turn on the phone?

Thanks.

iPhone SE, iOS 10.0.2

I don't want ANYTHING available when the phone is unlocked. I can get direct access to everything on my home screen. It is my widget screen. I do not need 2 widget screens. I know personally no one that likes ios10. I was only forced to get it, losing a lot of data, because my phone was smashed. The replacement genius gave me already had 10 on it. It forced me also to update iTunes which has no made my computers incompatible since most of them are on OS10.9. I am a pro user. I don't want emojees, or any of the other crap on iMessages either. Apple peaked at iOS6 and OS10.7 and has gone to the crapper since. It should just be called "Windows for Snowflakes" now.

Yes, I can see that it may be helpful to busy and efficient people. I like being able to see my background picture, for one thing. I have turned off suggestions from Siri 3 times, to no avail. The Siri widget is still there, along with 4 others that I seldom use. Why couldn't they make this ugly new feature optional?

This may help; you can enable "rest finger to unlock" at

Settings>General>Accessibility>Home Button>Rest finger to open (On)

This allows you to click the home button once to unlock. To disable the widgets pane (however it will be replaced by nothing) head to

Settings>Touch ID & Passcode>(Enter Passcode)>Allow to access when unlocked: Today View (Off)

Hope this helped!

Yay the home buttons already suck and go out easily. Way to go apple just another way for you guys to make more money

Since the iPhone 4, I've supported thousands of iPhones. The only ones I've ever seen with non-functioning Home buttons were ones that had suffered severe damage. While I know that the button does fail occasionally for other reasons, it is, in fact, it's not a common issue at all.

Perhaps you are right in the case of iPhones (i wouldn't know, having a Samsung), but I have registered 4 fingers for Touch ID on my iPad, and although pressing the button works in the Apple Store, i still have to enter my passcode every time the iPad wakes up, 'in order to use Touch ID'. Swiping worked immediately every time. So, no, for some of us, pressing HOME doesn't take less time than swiping.

It sounds as if you're turning your iPad off. Or, for some reason, it's restarting itself. You only need to enter the passcode to enable TouchID if the device has restarted (for whatever reason) or because you haven't unlocked it in 24 hours.

it makes more work. it's like having a real desk with with duplicate contents on the surface. It looks cheap. It's rude of Apple to not give users a choice.

I don’t understand that statement at all. I can routinely use my iPhone and iPads without ever seeing the widgets screen at all, ever. It only shows if you swipe to view and use it. Otherwise, you need never see it or use it, so how does it make more work?

I have actually met people with current model iPhones and iPads running iOS 10 who have used their devices for months and had no clue that a widget screen even existed in iOS.

With iOS 10, if you are seeing the widget screen when swiping from the lock screen, that is normal and how the new iOS works. There is no longer any "swipe to unlock" gesture available in iOS 10.

To wake the device and go directly to the passcode entry screen (if you don't use fingerprint recognition), press the home button twice.

In iOS 10, from the lock screen, the only swipe gestures are

1. swipe right to left to bring up the camera

2. swipe left to right to bring up the widgets screen (from the widget screen, swipe down to search).
