How do I get rid of the widgets screen?

Since upgrading to iOS 10, a widget screen shows up when I start my phone. How do I get rid of that so my passcode/touch ID screen shows up when I turn on the phone?

Thanks.

iPhone SE, iOS 10.0.2

What value does the widgets thing add? Why get rid of swipe to unlock? Why do I need the ability to swipe right for my camera on the unlock screen? I'm at a complete loss. It's like Apple's single goal is to annoy longtime users. I just don't get it.

For those who use widgets I'd imagine it adds a great deal of value. As to any changes, nobody here is party to Apple's decisions. If you don't like them then submit feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/

So I have no choice but to press the home button twice? I don't want the widget screen and I don't use the widget screen but the technology doesn't exist for the user to remove this annoyance?

Yes. The swipe to unlock feature does not exist in iOS 10. So if you wish to use your device, then you'll have to use the home button press to unlock. If you don't use the widget screen, then don't swipe to bring it up and ignore it.

I'd like to go back to the old way. I see no advantage to this at all. I respect that some people like it but I don't think we should be forced to use it. It seems inefficient to me. I will not upgrade my personal iPad because of the new feature. My work iPad updated without my permission and now I am stuck with it.

If Apple had never had a Swipe to unlock function, and had always required you to push the HOME button to unlock, and then switched to Swipe, there would be just as many (if not more) complaints.
