Mac App Store keeps asking for password

I am logged into the MacAppStore on my iMac. Username and password are correct. I can wiew account information, a list of Apps I have bought etc.

I am also able to download new apps from the Mac AppStore, and I downloaded and installed MacOS Sierra a few days after it was released.

There is now an update to one of my Apps (Twitter). When I click "update", I am prompted to give the password for the Apple account the App was bought with (the same account as I am currently logged into the Mac AppStore with).

I enter the correct (and Yes, I am sure it is the correct password for that AppleID). However, instead of starting downloading the update, I am just again prompted to enter the password. Whatever I do, I can not get the updating proscess started. The AppStore just keeps asking for the password over and over again.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug in MacOS Sierra

As a curiosity, first I was asked for the password of my wifes appleID. I was not able to change this, I could only type in the "password" box. My wifes AppleID is linked to mine through Family sharing, but her AppleID has never been used to buy anything from MacAppStore. I had to click "view account information", enter my AppleID and password, and then I am asked for my password when I try to update the App.

Jumping on this, as I can't find any more recent, similar threads - I'm having this problem, but the updates are for iMovie and Photos. I can't delete either, nor do I really want to, as they're stock apps. I don't use either frequently, but having the insistent update notification pop up on my screen is annoying.

I want to update just to get it out of the way, but I can't, as I'm being asked for my password (I, too, am sure I'm using the right one) again and again and again.

Help, please.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write an answer.

Yes, this is the only App I have had troubles with updating in MacAppStore. I am also able to download new Apps.

My wife has never downloaded any apps from the MacAppStore. All our purchases are registred on my AppleID. The witter App was downloaded with my AppleID.

My wife does not have a Twitter account.

My wife has a separate account on our iMac. If we log into MacAppStore with her AppleID, there are nothing listed under previous purchases.

My billing info is up to date, and I have no problems buying stuff from MacAppStore or iTunes Store.

After logging in or doing anything involving entering my AppleID and password, the Twitter update would ask for the password of my AppleID. But after entering (the correct) password, it would not start downloading, It would just return to asking for the password.

I really do not use the Twitter App on my iMac, so I just deleted it. And of course now there are "no new updates". Maybe I will download it again later. It is on my list of previous purchases.

If you read a few more of the posts in this forum, you would see that many people have experienced the MacAppStore asking for the password of another AppleID than the one they are using. This field is greyed out, and not possible to change. It all started after installing MacOS Sierra. So I really think this must be a bug in Sierra. I have filed a bug report.

I have tried booting my iMac in safe mode, but that does not solve the issue.

Hello viking bear,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I'm glad your issue was related to just the Twitter app, and since you don't use that app, it was easier just to delete it. Some apps have an extra layer of security built in to them, so if at some point you decide to redownload Twitter and get it set up, we will revisit this. But it sounds like you are good to go with everything else, so that's great!

I'll include some additional information below to help you get familiar with macOS Sierra.
