Hello,
In macOS Sierra the Mail function "Remove Attachments" (Message menu) no longer works!
Until now, when I received emails containing many large photos I always saved the photos seperately,
then removed them from the emails.
Now when I receive such an email, the photos are no longer displayed as attachments,
and can no longer be removed.
How can this be fixed?

As i have googled , attachments are stored on server while using POP account , even you delete attachments from the system .
And in IMAP accounts , if attachment is deleted from the computer it is also deleted from the server , thats why users are preferring IMAP account .

Thanks tygb, I know the difference between IMAP and POP accounts, and I still prefer the advantages of POP accounts.
This doesn't solve the problem Sierra brought with receiving attachments as inline, which makes it impossible to remove attachments from emails.
Has anyone else found a solution?

Yes its your choice to choose POP or IMAP , I have googled around as how to remove attachments from POP accounts ( ox daily ) and you tube videos .
Please google it yourself the answer was there .
Thanks for looking around, but I want to continue removing attachments within Mail.
(I'm sure there are ways to find the attachments deep in Mail's database and delete the files there, but then I would not get these little inserted notes in the concerned emails about which attachments (e.g. file names identifying photos) have been removed.)
I think so we are not permitted to attach third party google links here , as I have seen the answer is in a site ox daily .
So , you are talking about user library ( ~/Library ) > containers > com.apple.mail > Data > Library > Mail > V4 > all alfa numeric folders .

For POP accounts, reduce the amount of time that copies of messages and attachments remain on the mail server before being removed. Choose Mail > Preferences, click Accounts, select the account, click Advanced, then choose a different option from the pop-up menu below “Remove copy from server after retrieving a message.”

Thanks for trying to help, but I'm afraid this doesn't help with my problem.
You can compress the large attachment and try to delete .

(I want to keep the email (without attachment) in Mail,
and save the attachment (mostly photos I receive) elsewhere.)
To be very true I use IMAP account to delete any attachment I right click on it and delete , try in POP account , and regarding photos create a new folder on desktop and drag and drop the photos , or is there any options to create new smart mail box folder in pop account .

What you are doing might work for IMAP – but not for POP. This is not getting us anywhere...
Yes I have the same problem and use both POP which does not have the option you showed but rather asks when you want to remove a copy from the server and IMap (for ICloud) which has the option you showed. I just tried sending a message to myself having ticked none in the download attachments pane but it didn't work. Thanks for the help though
Hi, I have updated to 10.12.1 - sorry but it did not help. I also have both Imap and POP accounts, when googling to see if I could get any help, mostly they seemed to recommend using only Imap accounts. That would be fine with only one user but is not the best solution if 3 different people are using your 3 connected computers at work. Today however for no reason that I can understand the delete attachment was active for all my messages in my sent folder and I was able to remove them. I have made absolutely no changes so I fail to understand why deleting suddenly worked. I tried moving some saved messages with their attachments back into the sent folder but it didn't work unfortunately. would be really interested to know if the same happens to you.
