Facebook notification issue

Something seems odd with the Facebook notifications in macOS Sierra. I suddenly had an issue that whenever there is a notification in Facebook and my Mac notifies me about it, the notification banner on the upper-right hand corner of the screen says that I have 200+ (about 278) notifications pending. Also, Notification Center displays 200+ notifications.

I checked the notification in Facebook and I only had 1 notification, not 200+ as displayed by the banner and in Notification Center. It is as if that 1 notification in Facebook is multiplied by more than a hundred-fold in Notification Center.

I tried deleting my Facebook account (via the Internet Accounts tab in System Preferences) and creating it again, but to no avail. For now, I just unticked the Notification check box under Facebook's Internet Accounts settings to stop the notifications.

I hope that there's someone that could help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

Just putting my 2 cents in. I have the same issue with Facebook, but it shows 12 notifications for each single notification that comes across Facebook. I am going to disable notifications for Facebook for now.

I have the same problem, too. For me, every Facebook notification gets multiplied by 24. Annoying.

Late 2013 15-inch MacBook Pro

Using Chrome, no Safari or Chrome-plugins for Facebook, no other plugins or Apps related to Facebook.

My lucky number is 74 notifications per facebook notification. What a pile of junk.

Hello

I had the same issue with 200+ Facebook Messages.

But, with the latest MacOS Sierra update the problem is now solved.

Now I am receiving Facebook notifications normally.

Can anyone else confirm that the latest Sierra update solves the problem?

Have the problem too, latest update did not fix it. My multiplier is 67 per real notification.

Same for me, I've just updated Sierra and have 11 notifications come through soon after.

same problem 32 notifications and it also displays "you have a new message" without saying who it's from. very annoying

I made these steps and they actually worked for me (after upgrading to 10.12.2):

I unchecked all boxes and disabled notification badges in Facebooks settings in notifications settings (pardon for the swedish language in the screenshots).

Then I shut off the computer, restarted in safe mode (holding down Shift on boot). From here I resumed the earlier settings in order to try it, which of course failed because I was in safe mode...

Restart again, and I now have a normal (or maybe rather expected) behavior of FB notifications.

Hi again,

Last weekend i actually sat and watched when the notification app (or the FB/Messenger service) cracked up and threw me back to the broken state again, after I successfully repaired it as I described in a previous post. This was kind of interesting because somebody might be helped by knowing that it was a notification from a group conversation in FB Messenger that broke the notification function again. The day before yesterday I followed my own instruction and succeeded once again to repair it. This shows that the erroneous behavior is repeatable, as the reparation procedure.
