iPhone 7 Audio Jack Adapter Issues

Since getting my iPhone 7 I've noticed issues when connecting the phone to my car via the 3.5mm-to-lightning adapter. Every so often the phone will refuse to acknowledge that there is an audio source plugged in and the sound will randomly switch from the car speakers to the iPhone's speakers.

For the time being I am having to disconnect the cable (aux cord + 3.5mm-to-lightning adapter) from the phone and reconnect it, and that only solves the problem 8 out of 10 times. In certain instances even that will fail to fix the problem and I will be left with a phone that cannot connect to my car. I have noticed it start to happen more frequently since installing iOS 10.0.2.

I am wondering if this is more an issue of the phone or the adapter not working properly. Please help.

Note: I have tried connecting the aux cord to another source via the headphone jack and can confirm that there is no problem with the cable.

I just used my 'adapter' in my iPhone 7 plus today and noticed that... it didn't work at all. Every split second I get static/music/static/music as the songs continue to play. I knew the adapter wouldn't work once I found out that they were giving us something free with our expensive iPhones with no headphone jack. My earbuds are OEM Samsung and I refuse to go out and buy new earbuds from another company just to see if it is an issue with that model of earbuds. My Samsung earbuds work with everything else so there is no reason the adapter shouldn't work with all 3.5mm headphones. Oh well, guess I'll use the Apple earpods and continuously keep putting them back in my ears as they fall out constantly until I can find a pair of good bluetooth earbuds.

Hey for anyone with this issue, I'm replying to myself, the issue was with "soundcheck on". Toggling it to off ended the static, so clearly it's a software issue, it wasn't with the adapter. Although whether "soundcheck" was on or off before never made any static with just a mini jack cord without the adapter, so I take that back. The adapter is just an issue. And so is monopolizing data port designs.

I'm facing the same issue when playing music from the iPhone on the car's speakers, but never with the headphones, I noticed that when the phone volume is high the adaptor becomes hot and stops working, but when the phone volume is in the middle the problem doesn't happen, can you please decrease the volume and give it a try... let me know what happens with you!

The only way I found to fix it is to just use the EarPods that come with the phone and just sacrifice them falling out of the ears since they are designed so horribly. Either that or get a cheap pair of Bluetooth earphones on Amazon. Way cheaper than Beats or anything Apple but work extremely well. Like 50 bucks. Sound is great. Range is great. Bass is better than Beats.

These are not very good quality adapters. When they work its great, when they don't dang is it frustrating. I am on number 3 and it just went out today. The wire inline between is a weak point from flexing and getting caught on stuff. I wear headphones almost daily for hearing protection and media. Bluetooth isn't a viable option for my use. Might be switching back to the iPhone 6s plus. :(

I have the same issue. This is the first time I've tried using headphones with the little adapter. They just happen to be Samsung headphones that I got with my work phone. Came straight out of the box so I know there is nothing wrong with them. I plug them into my Samsung phone and they work perfect. It most likely has something to do with that adapter.

I've had the same issue with my iPhone 7 since I got it. And having had troubles with using iPhone headphones with my gaming console and researching why that was happening I have a pretty good bet on why it's happening for us iPhone 7 users.

Apple has two of the three rings on the 3.5 jack for headphones with built in mics, flipped. If you ask me it's so that you can't use anyone's headphones but theirs.

So I had my $175 headphones and was all excited to try them with my iPhone 7 and the adapter but when I tried playing music, it cut in and out or would play for a few seconds then stop or even just play through the phone speakers.

I then proceeded to try my lightning headphones that came with the phone, they worked fine. I also tried older iPhone headphones which also WORKED FINE.

So if you want to use anything other than iPhone headphones or beats(owned by apple) with your shiny new 7, you'll have to search for a third party adapter instead.

This is an example of product manipulation at its finest.

Also, notice that everyone or almost everyone having trouble is trying to use 3.5 jacks not made by apple.

If you are referring to what I said about two of the rings being swapped on apple headphones, how does that explain that my adapter works perfectly now with any 3.5 aux jack headphones or cord after switching the two wires around and soldering/taping it back together? Only thing I cannot use is a microphone on a headphone cord because that was one of the wires switched.
