iOS 10.1 Battery drain

I have a 6 plus running 10.2. Went to the store yesterday and they told me nothing wrong with phone. Told me to backup my phone and execute a factory reset/restore from backup.. I have no time For their BS. After readying all the post. I switched back from Galaxy to IPhone now this mess, keep it simple stupid. Why do I need a expensive phone that fails when you most need it. Looking for alternatives at this point.

It is complete BS the reset routine. I'm off a fresh install less than a month with 10.1.1 and just upgraded to 10.2 this week and now my 6s plus is a battery draining brick. Apple has a massive issue on their hands and as usual they are all hush. I wonder why they won't replace your phone as easily as they would before for even a minor issue. My phone has completely shut down with over 30% and over 40%.

iOS 10 entered my life for 6 hours only. Driving on the highway I noticed the major impact it had on usability- iTunes begins playing, and no way to stop it with one hand. The interface/logon menu looks CONFUSING, and distracting (dangerous when driving), iMessage childish and so on. As if a 21 yr old wizz was given a free industrial licence.

It did appear to have a shorter battery life - but it could be just indexing. My conclusion was that iOS 10 was poorely designed, unintuitive and the worse iteration. For the first time ever, I found out how to roll it back to 9 and REMAINED ON 9 since then, refusing any attempt to upgrade. Deleting downloads, etc.

In iOS 9 the phone is predictable, professional, long lasting.

This forum proves that my intuition for 10 was correct, and I do feel and share your pain for having Apple's increasingly eclectic software design let you down.

No worries, like Mac OS Sierra, Apple has a fix coming up right away: it will remove any percentile references and no more 30%-1% headaches 🙂.

My iPhone6 is more like a dancing ball now a days. Battery icon is Green, suddenly drop to Red connecting the charger back brings it to Yellow.

Come-on apple now fix it.

Today my phone was at 70% charge, suddenly droped to 47%. I put the charge on it suddenly goes to 68% again. Charge it to 85% disconnected the charger. Used for a minute again battery back to 56%.

Woww. And I can read this happennning.

How did you get it back to iOS 9?

My iphone 6 is 2 yrs old as well - I'm not even done paying on it. Last evening I went to use my phone for the first time in 6 hrs and got the low battery msg. It was 1%. I turned off the phone, then turned it back on. Battery was 58%. WTH? Is that the work-around until this issue is resolved?

This is about a bug causing the shutdown of iPhones when the battery is still showing as having a significant amount of charge remaining.

When it is reconnected to a charger, it immediately reverts back to the percentage it shut down at.

The issue has been reported on all models from the 4S upward and including the 7.

I type this as I've literally just restarted from my worst ever shutdown percentage of 42%.

As someone who has only purchased iPhones since the iPhone 3G, it's really annoying that I can no longer rely on my iPhone & also that I'm rapidly using my charging cycles with unnecessary reconnects.

So I haven't seen the last few days comments here so not sure if any progress has been made but I have had some new behaviour of my phone that may provide some clues to someone trying to troubleshoot this. My phone had been free of unexpected shutdowns for a few days (it was mostly inside during these days). It wasn't draining fast (other than when I attempted to use it as a hotspot when it drained super fast and the phone became hot). It was also running all the way down to zero charge as it should with no sudden shutdowns.

What had happened in this time though was that overnight on one night all of the music on my phone disappeared. Most podcasts downloaded disappeared as well. They were definitely gone as there was now an extra 40gb of space on my phone. I simply re-synced my phone and resorted the music. This has never happened before and not recurred at this stage.

Today I was out riding my bike. After riding for perhaps 10 mins in mildly cold weather (9 degrees C) with it in my coat pocket and upon going inside I attempted to send some messages and after a minute it shut off. Battery level was 45%. Giving it charge restored it at 45%. It worked during the time I was riding (I had Bluetooth headphones playing both music and giving Google maps directions). I left that place and rode again and it worked during that period. I had a brief stop and rode to another location. It continued to work but when I again went inside and attempted to send a message it died at 27%. Charge brought it back to 27%. I rode home and have used it since being home and it is running down to zero as it should.

I have noticed that when I open some apps (Messenger and Evernote) it has asked me to sign in as though I was setting up the phone for the first time. I'm not sure if this is due to the shutdowns.

I'm not sure what all that unusual behaviour means but none of this was happening on previous iOS's but then it also wasn't as cold as it is now and lowish temperature (but still well above the temperature when the phone should work) definitely seems to exacerbate this problem in my case. iPhone 6 still running iOS 10.1.1

This post is about battery drain and random shut offs since the update to iOS 10.1.1 and above. In a nutshell, simply "battery issues" since the update. Apple it seems in recent months is having battery issues across the board. Not only on random models of iPhones that can run iOS 10.1.1 and above including the iPhone 7 but also the MacBook Pro's. I have the same issue. I still have an iPhone 5 and it was fine until I updated the iOS to 10.2. Now mine shuts down at 30% and once even at 42% like you described. Then when it is plugged in it shows it's 30% or whatever charged. Something is definitely wrong with the iOS. I've also used iPhone since 3G and am really pondering a different phone if this and other annoyances aren't rectified soon.

I have the same issue - iPhone 6 original model. A few days ago while wandering around Kyoto on roaming, my phone shut down at around 30 percent. I plugged it into an external battery and it eventually came back on, but was at 30+ percent charge. When I'd first plugged it into that batter, the battery symbol with the red line (showing almost empty) appeared, but then when it rebooted, it showed the 30+ percent.

My stepson's 6s did the same thing around the same time. I'd never noticed this issue before, but usually I'm plugged in most of the day to a charger in Southern California. It happened to his only once, but mine several times. Disturbing.

My daughters phone started lasting somewhere into the ballpark of 40 or so minutes after first updating to 10.1.1. Then I upgraded her to the 10.2..... and the phone lasted less than 20 minutes.

Update:

A friend gave us a broken 5S which luckily I was able to have repaired for a decent price so I migrated my daughter to the newer phone. We avoided installing from a backup. I just redid her phone one bit at a time. Now everything is nice and tidy and the install is clean. Her 5S is working pretty well although it too seems to be draining more quickly than my own 5S. At least it doesn't spontaneously shut itself off at 35% or 50-70% as her iPhone5 was doing.

With her old battery drain & shutdown iPhone 5, I did a factory re-install in recovery mode.

Now the phone has lasted about 3 hours and it is down to 19 minutes sitting in standby mode. Before the upgrades it would last all day and overnight. I miss that longevity. Still 3+ hours is better and I am not done tinkering just yet.

I will leave it overnight until it dies and then plug it in to see if it charges fully. I will let it charge until tomorrow evening and see if I can induce the iPhone 5 to last a bit longer.

At least it is not spontaneously shutting itself down right now.

Perhaps I can re-calibrate the battery which I have heard some people talk about.

Perhaps the battery is damaged or diminished at this point from all of the perpetual shutdowns and recharges.

Regardless, I need to check whether the phone can be redeemed back to its former self from a month ago.

If it continues to misbehave, I may take it to the Bulb & Battery store which will replace the Battery for about 50 bucks.

Maybe then the phone will finally behave more like new.

Read the original post and it is talking about shutoff from 30% not a gradual drain.
