iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

Well, mine and my wife's iPhone 5S's have been having this problem since updating to iOS10. I'm pretty sure we waited till 10.1 since most bugs are typically resolved by then. This is not the "feature" I was looking for in an update. Especially since they pretty much force iOS updates on you by having that little red badge that you can't get rid of or free up the space that the update is hogging on our phones waiting to us to relent to it's update demands. Hopefully this isn't a bug that takes two years to figure out, like the day light savings one.

Anybody else been hosed that has an iPhone 5S?

I have had this problem as well since my update to 10.1.1. I thought it was a hardware issue or that my battery was just going bad until I read online about this "30% battery bug". My battery drains like crazy and then my phone will shut off at around 30% and won't come back on until I plug it in. This has put me in some dangerous and bad positions being in places or events where I would absolutely need my phone for safety reasons. To make matters worse, I've read Apple has only recognized this problem affecting only Iphone 6s's and no other models. I have an Iphone 6 Plus and have read that many with different models are complaining of the same issue. Now with the 10.2 update, I've heard the problem gets worse. Is Apple even going to bother fixing this at all??? That Google Pixel is looking more and more appealing.

This is very frustrating, my 5s doesn't turn of at 30% but the battery drains really fast since I updated to 10.1.1 and I don't se any improvement on 10.2 but in my case what is really bad is my ipad pro 12,9 that I use for work, it used to run about 10 hours on ios 10.0.2 and now barely makes the 6 hour mark wich is a big problem considering that the battery takes more than 4 hours to fully charge. I just wich apple would allow us to downgrade to the ios version that suited us the best, in my case the 10.0.2

Drewzers: on the point of the OS updates that use space -- actually you *can* get rid of them. If your phone downloads an update against your wishes, the one thing it thankfully won't do is install it against your wishes. So if you keep refusing to install it, it will just sit there using memory indeed. But if you go in settings/general/manage storage, the update will appear there among your apps, so you'll be able to delete it just like you'd delete an app if you're running low on storage and wanted to make room.

Ive used iPhones since the very original and seen lots of bugs, this however is the most serious from a user PoV. I've got a 6 currently (holding out for next years model) and have seen this issue for quite a while now, it's certainly not restricted to the 6s model. On quite a few occasions now I've used the phone and it's shown 25 to high 30s and it's shut down without warning (sometimes I've also seen it hold onto 1% for an unnaturally long time). I've done a fresh install it's not helped. I hope 9.2 gpets to the bottom of the issue as it's getting to the point where my brand loyalty is being stretched to the point of Android and that's saying something.....

OK, as promised, my battery has been replaced under the Lucky Lotto scheme, here are my thoughts.

I attach screenshots of my usage and yes, it is indeed significantly better, no restarts.

But not what I would expect from a new battery and certainly not what it was when I first bought it on the lower IOS just over a year ago.

Effectively, a new battery is near as **** it a new phone.

Charged it about 21 hours ago and let it sit overnight, went down 5% which is fine.

Started using it (moderately) around 12 hours ago and am now down to 27%.

No serious Pokemon playing yet, though that will come shortly.

Note that I was only on Pokemon Go for about 20 minutes, yet look at the usage of the app, almost a quarter of the battery went on it.

I will keep you posted.

Adrian.

My iPhone 7 is 2 days old. My new phone loses about 15-20% of battery per hour. I went to bed with 75% charge but it was down to 1% in the morning after being on standby all night. Apple support had me turn off background activity and reload the software. No difference. Their diagnostics said there was no problem and that is just the way it is. My old iPhone 6 which is 2 years old still has a much better battery. I am not sure if this is a software are hardware issue.
