iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Merry Christmas everyone.

OK, so after a few days, it looks like the new Lucky Lotto battery, courtesy of Apple, appears to be doing its job.

I had nearly 90 minutes on Pokemon Go plus Facebook, Emails, Internet and no sudden shutdowns and the battery level did not plummet like a stone.

So, fingers crossed, mine appears to be battery failure, which I believe was brought on not by too much air exposure during manufacture of the battery, as Apple claim, but IOS 10.

Pretty much all the devices that have failed so far have been on IOS 10 I believe and they range from the 5 to the 7.

What I would like to know now is:

• How long will my new battery last?
• Will older phones get their battery replaced?
• Will I have to now take out Apple Care for 3 years (should I decide to stick) in case my next phone has a battery death after 2 years which is not covered by warranty?

So I just had my battery replaced at Batteries Plus. $54 for my 6+ including tax and a $10 off coupon for scheduling online. I will give it a full charge and see what happens in the morning, where it usually drops from 100% to somewhere between 50 & 60% within 90 minutes.

I will report back.

PS: I had them give me the old battery in case Apple finally decides they want to do something about it.

my iphone 6 got back from official service and a new 120 euros costing battery is working fine...

technician said the life cycle of the battery was complete and had to be changed...
am still using my iphone 4, daily, (6 years) and my ipad ini 1st gen for 4 years and their batteries are fine...
iphone 6 after 2 years and the moment i updated to ios10.1 in a moment completed the life cycle of his battery... coincidence???? probably not... but apple does not take the responsibility...
the thing is that now my phone is working fine and my guess is that it was not just a bug .. bc that could drain my battery now as well.. i think it was a battery killer bug at the 10.1 and after that all the updates are useless.. dont want to go back to 10.1 and find out... almost 2 months with a semi working iphone is my threshold...

THE THING IS THAT AM NOT HAPPY WITH ALL THIS SITUATION LIKE MOST OF U AND THAT it IS SOMETHING I WILL CONSIDER WHEN I AM ABOUT TO BUY MY NEXT PHONE, TABLET, WATCH, COMPUTER...
HOPE APPLE WILL REIMBURSE US SOMEHOW....

Yea that's too much to spend on a simple battery swap. I'm not sure why you took it to Apple. My car is 9 years old and out of warranty. I won't take it to the dealer as such. I just had my battery swapped on my iPhone 6 at a small repair shop called FixLounge inside a Cardenas grocery store in Ontario, California for only $30 bucks out the door. The repair tech and I were having a conversation about the iOS 10.1.1 and up battery drain while he did the swap. It's an easy thing to do with the right tools, good eye sight and patience. For me, after years of repairing laptops and iPads my eyes are shot. Anyway, he did agree with my suspicion that 2 to 3 years of battery life is what to expect from all batteries in the iPhone 5 and up. This is due to everyone wanting things "thin". The thinner the device the less space for a battery. Anyone who's held their battery from any iPhone 5 and up will agree. These things are too thin in my opinion. But, with that said, there's still unnecessary processes going on in the background of iOS 10.1.1 and up. These processes won't affect a new battery but will quickly wear out an already tired one. My advice for everyone in here is to simply find a random phone repair shop not an Apple Store if you're out of warranty and shop around for the cheapest battery swap. It's so cheap in most areas that once iOS 10's issues have been resolved you'll have a new battery as well. I found my little shop by simply bringing up a search que "iPhone repair" in Apple maps. Google maps works also for this if that's your preference. Anyway, I've got an old iPod Classic is need of a new battery and this shop quoted me $20 dolla' to swap its battery. I know where I'll be today!

Update 3:

My "Possible Solution" turned into "No Solution"

I had done a complete rescue mode factory install. Everything was completely blanked on the phone.

It charged up and lasted in Standby for over 30 hours. It even sat at 1% for a couple of hours whereby I put the LED flashlight on to drain the rest.

Then I put it on to charge overnight.

I turned the phone off and By morning it was fully 100%.

But since they it keeps shutting down in 15-20 minutes.

Back to Square One again.

Need an OS fix from Apple for this phone to work.

It seems like some people have had luck with swapping out the battery, but I don't know why since this is and OS problem. Perhaps something changes when the hardware gets disconnected, but I am unwilling to do this for fear of ruining something.

I am also not willing to buy a new Battery when the problem persists for so many.

Essentially I am stuck with a crippled phone until a fix comes along.

Just find a local repair tech who may work with you to experiment. That is, test your phone with a new battery. See what happens. Explain to him or her about the iOS 10 drain issue. All repair techs worth their salt know about this issue. Changing out the battery does nothing to your data. The phone will come on right where you left off. No biggy. BTW to everyone in this thread check out this latest article . . . Apple has their hands full to say the least. First Consumer Reports removed the MacBook Pros from their recommended list due to battery issues (that's right, brand new MacBook Pros) and now this article explains that even Apple employees don't have the time or staffing to deal with replacing batteries in the 6S replacement program. Hopefully this won't get censored for some reason. Shouldn't 'cause I'm not trying to get anyone signed up or anything. LOL

I have not updated my 6+ To 10.1 I'm running my iPhone on previous iOS and I do not have the battery issue. I did have the problem on my other 6+ that was running on 10.1. I sold that iphone and bought another one. I have not had any issues with battery at all. It's been several weeks and I get my battery all the way down to zero. I am afraid to update to 10.2. I don't want to began having issues with battery on this phone. HAS ANYONE UPDATED TO THE 10.2 or 10.3 FROM A PHONE RUNNING ON A PREVIOUS VERSION, PREVIOUS TO 10.1? If so, did you began having battery issues?

There is no 10.3 that I am aware of. There is only 10.2.1 beta releases right now.

I am a Beta user and am not allowed to comment on the function of Beta software.

I can say that I plan on sticking with my current Beta install at this point until I hear that things will not suddenly render my phone crippled.

My particular phone has remained fully functional and I like it that way.

I just replaced the battery on my iPhone 6 (did it my self and cost me only €9.90 for genuine and a heart attack)

Let's see the results. I will follow apple's charging guidelines.

I wanted to say I'm on day 3 with the new battery (that I had to pay for, unfortunately) and it's still working great.

I'm watching this thread in hopes that apple expands the battery replacement program for devices other than the 6s or finds another resolution. I am running ios 10.2 on an iPhone 6 that is just over a year old. Battery power will go from 80% to 30% rapidly and then down to single digits quickly thereafter. Hate to go to apple store and waste an entire day waiting in line, fighting the crowds, and then getting angered when they finally tell me they can't do anything. I also hate to replace my battery myself only to find out later that it may void any opportunity for apple to remedy this situation when and if they actually do something about it. I guess I will start carrying around a backup battery pack.

My iPhone 6 has been running 10.2 since about a week ago and shortly after is when I noticed the battery draining extremely fast similar to everyone else's experiences.

If everyone now is going to pay for a new battery or buy a new iphone, Apple will never have a good reason to fix this issue.
If this iOS issue really ruins iphone battery, I'd like Apple to offer me a new battery FOR FREE, since it's Apple's fault.
If batteries don't get riuned by this issues, than please Apple, hurry up and fix battery management and give us back our working Iphones.
There's no way I'm going to pay not even one € for someone else's fault.
