iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

Each phone, OS version and maker experiences a few pages of users posting issues. When it comes to Apple's 400 million devices, please google iOS 6, 7, 8 and 9 Battery drain, and please return explain how come there were threads on those topics as well. Comon denominator is Li Ion technology, not the OS...

IHIP the article's main thesis is that some batteries were revealed faulty under that recall program. It is a fact. Also, another logical deduction, is that it was a hardware issue, irrespective of iOS. QED

There are phones which reverted back to 10.1 and battery life improved and when re-upgraded to 10.1.1 and 10.2 wit went worst. Hence there is a fundamental flaw in how iOS is calculating battery life.

If reading the article at http://www.gottabemobile.com/2016/08/25/how-to-fix-bad-ios-9-battery-life-2/, sounds like "many" users have issues right? Yet everysingle affected user here defended iOS 9. Where were you when iOS 9 members posted? Likely you woul dhave denied the issue existed.

The reality is that media distords reality badly. Sensationalism sells. iOS 9 did not brick iPhones, and the "many" users that article referred to were an infinitesimal, e-6 or something users whom had normal hardware issues. The forum members here, are the same e-6 but your issue coincided with iOS 10 release.

Which renders the troubleshoting steps identical: have the battery replaced and see from then on.

Good deduction, but very poor argument. It fails due to one single faulty premise "how iOS is calculating battery life." It is the battery controller doing the estimate, an onboard microchip with itw own onboard programming.

Before you return to ask how come iOS versions have different effects, is that each firmware iteration, or queryof the controller, produces different results. It should not. What that means is that the controller is reporting inconsistently. If all worldwide 400 million 6/6s/7 had the issue, now we are talking firware issue or something.

yet we know that to not be the issue. So whatever happends with those battery cells or controller, all can say, have it replaced.

though... all faulty ones failing at exactly 30%? :-0

c'mon!

I owned every iPhone "s": battery, with all of them, used to last me two full days. On this 6s, since iOS 10.x update (when/if the unexpected shutdown doesn't kick in), it does barely last 1 :-/

anyway... my 6s qualifies for a battery replacement, but I'm holding 'till a new iOS version is out

IOS takes information from the controllers and determines whether the shut the phone down or not. If iOS is unable to read the data correctly it will report the power wrongly necessity it down

This battery issue is so frustrating! Just while researching a couple of articles this morning about the issues with my iPhone 6 battery, I'm now at 53% from a full charge in about 40 minutes. It's been shutting off at around 50% so I don't have much time to write this post :-0

8 years in tech is a life time. Outdated. 8 years is iPhone 3GS technology.
