iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello, everybody. After two weeks I'm back with updates. As I previously said here, I left my phone at a authorized center to have it checked. The appointment couldn't be worse: they detected a problem in my battery, which I was already expecting, so I left the phone there so they could give me an estimate price for the service, as they would analyse the phone more deeply in order to check for any additional problems. The store took more that expected to give me an answer, and when they finally did, they said I should replace the entire phone, for a price of 1600 reais, which, believe me, is a LOT of money. The technical report they sent was very suspicious, and obviously, I don't have all that money to spend on a phone. So yesterday, I took my phone back and went to a premium authorized center. As the other center, they said they should analyse the phone in their lab and they would email me with the price of the repair.

They answered me today, and they said I only need to have my battery changed and it would cost me 450 reais, which is also more than I was willing to pay, but it's far more reasonable than 1600 reais. I already payed for the service, and I'm now waiting for the phone to be ready.

Will come back here to give a final update to my story.

Hey Anna it is great to hear back from you, it had been a few weeks since your appointment. But also disappointing as your issue was not resolved. I am not surprised for the battery due to the cycle count you mentioned weeks ago. But 1600 reais is very high, the cost of a new iPhone 6S/64 Gb where I am, so a very smart move to defer. Do you remember why so high? And even 450 reais, is the cost of two new iPhone batteries jobs at an Apple Store USA, keep that in mind if having friends whom travel. Did the service center find anything else to replace?

My 6s has been experiencing battery drain the last month or so. I finally decided to contact Apple support via chat and they did a battery diagnostic test and said the battery is good. Happened upon this thread and downloaded Battery Life and Battery apps. Both apps state my battery health is BAD, 47.5% and 52%. The results seem to contradict what Apple is saying, unless I should be looking at something else in these battery apps. My phone is 1 year and 2 weeks old so just out of the warranty and apparently doesn't qualify for the battery replacement program.

The amount of 1600 reais was for replacing the entire phone, as the first center dishonestly told me I should do. It is equivalent of 50% of the price of the phone, which as you can see, is ridiculously expensive here. The price of the battery replacement in here is 449 reais, in your country is $79. It is a big difference from one country to another, and being such an expensive phone, it would be expected that it should last longer. My boyfriend has the same phone, , and it is not a premium phone, since 2013 and its battery is good, not perfect, but still functional. So yeah, I'm a little disappointed to say the least.

I have a friend who traveled to USA this week and also have an iPhone 6, and I considered giving her the phone to be repaired there, but she no longer has the documents of her phone, so she could have problems when coming back with our customs and with the possibility of paying taxes for the phone I decided to have it fixed here, as it would end up costing me the same.

I understand the cost, this is why the Brazilian delegation I met in Arizona last june bought, repaired or replaced phones at the local store. The easiest way to have no customs issues is the original carrier/Apple email receipt when you first got the phone- it has the serial number. If an agent really asks to verify, your friend opens your email receipt, and issue is gone. They may even be sympathetic if telling them that the Brazilian battery cost is nearly 250$ vs 79 in the US. Fingers crossed your repair works?

Yes, once I got home I grabbed that cheap infrared thermometer I rarely use, surfed a bit and it was 40-42C on the back of the phone. With the case on, IR says 30 and Apps 45C, the case is thick and all the heat is trapped inside by the soft rubber and hard polycarbonate. So the case meant to save my phone from a few drops, which it did, is likely cooking my battery 40-50C whenever surfing or watching TV or video. Lesson learned and I will provide feedback to Speck. The battery apps confirmed a 10-15C temperature drop with the holes.

So far my iPhone 6 is doing fine since I replaced the battery yesterday. I did not have any drainage issues or shutdowns until I upgraded to iOS 10.1.1. My issues began as just the battery drain that progressively got worse and it wasn't until about a month later that the shut downs started. I just wanted to say that I also experienced my phone heating up when the battery drain started. I remember removing my case and being shocked at how hot my phone had gotten. Once again, my phone never had these issues until I did the upgrade. I'll keep you guys updated if this new battery starts having issues but so far it seems to have fixed my issues. I won't be doing anymore iOS upgrades if I can help it because I'm afraid it will mess up my battery/phone:(

I just install the Apple Support App.

They call me back seconds after my diagnostic battery help, check couple of setting with first level support person.

Then as I was still upset after check and sugest what I already do, they transfer me to a second level tech.

I told again that since iOS10, I loose about 1%/minutes when using the phone and have to charge 2-3 time day compare to previous iOS10 that I cgarge each 2 days.

Then he start a remote diagnostic (Mobile Resource Inspector) to diagnosis the battery and told me my battery is bad and need to be reolace!

Surprise!

And I ask if he was able to told me how mutch cycle I had and he can't

Then told me as my waranty ending 397 day ago, I have to assume the 99$ fee for the replacement!!!

You didnt get the right guy here!

I explain that I was able to do 2 day before iOS10 and now 8 hours since the iOS10 they install at genius bar witout my authorization.

I also told that my 5 year ols iP4 still get 89% battery life, my iPod nano 1G, iPod touch 1G, 3G and 4G, iPad3 still have healty battery and my 2 years old iP6+ have a dead battery after iOS10 as many other's and where at 210 pages here with the same issue since iOS10.

I told him that I WILL NOT ASSUME THESE FEE!

And also take the bet for apple and pay for a new battery that might die in couple of month due to unsolved iOS bug.

And I finish by telling that this is my last Apple devise.

Then...

He suggest to me that Apple can replace the battery with a exeption replacement number at their charge.

He also told me that is an exception replacement.

There will be no more free replacement even if the new battery die in 6 month...

There is no way to turn back to iOS8 or iOS9

We are laboratory rats, not custumer.

We can't chose witch iOS we want to use even if we suspect an iOS to be problematic, we have to follow the wave and let see our battery frying by the iOS until they solve this major issue.

My appointment to geniusbar is tomorow, I'll keep you posted...

Félicitations Alain, whatever you did, you got a generous offer. Maybe your accent was too charming for them 😝 Either case, keep in mind that our friend paid 250$ USD equivalent for the same battery which you got free.. And 397+365 = 762 days, a good bet you had more than 600 cycles. See my answer below, in 24hrs I had a drop from 93 to 82% health, a likely fail this month, am on my 5th month. You had 2+ years. If Montreal wins tonight maybe it makes you happy taberslak.

Iphone 6 user Issues since October. Genius bar ran diagnostics and said no issues with my battery.

Restored my iPhone from backup and the issue still exists

Something I've noticed..... My phone/battery consistently drains when i go from the cold to warmth. No issues with performance when indoors.

This is a safety issue and I shouldn't be forced to upgrade my phone because of an iOS update
