iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Next time people appear to know things better, odds is they are. Some of the article links you read on the subject, ref it being the battery, was very fortunate to have contributed to that. Took that long for everyone involved to breakthrough to the top Apple leadership, but we did. Was battery, liquid and chemicals all along.

Welcome back my friend! Yes it was the battery, and quite a few users and industry gurus worked tirelessly to achieve those links you referred to. Do you remember all the insults I was getting when saying "Change the battery?" And that everything else was software responding to a bad battery? Ref your claim, there is no magic bullet out there, once phone got bigger, they also got more vulnerable: drops, and heating. A single drop bends a 6 6S 7 8 x30 more than a 5 or SE. This is invisible to the eye, but the internal damage to the battery pack is real. Am sure you heard about the battery bursting in flames inside an Apple store as they removed it? That sensitive, peeling it off shorted it.

The 6S I had then during the postings was replaced by Apple. I asked them to replace the battery but they refused as the test said it was still marginally good. A fancy program said other wise: one day it was at 80% health, the other at 93. With iOS 10 released I took it immediately with Apple for releasing the battery control software. Had not heard back, and discussed it with outside industry experts. In the end, we are glad Apple admitted to it. We will be even happier when solid state battery takes over.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

Yes, I revisited the forum once mid last year; then deployed overseas with the military. When my friends at Forbes broke the story on the battery, they had been working on it incessantly for nearly a year. My contribution to them was several months, including facts such as all those whom replaced batteries had no more issues. I thought the forum would be locked down for inactivity after a few months.

My hope is Apple buying new battery patents and giving us weeks long use and super fast charging. Oh, to everyone: wireless charging is interesting, but overheats the batteries badly due to induction. And heat kills prematurely lithium ion batteries. My advice is avoiding wireless charging.

i use to have this problem in IOS 10.1 . since i updated to ios 10.2 is goes all great. now ios 10.2.1 is released few hours ago. go ahead and download it. am sure that will fix your issue
