iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

May I assume, then, that you did not have these problems on iOS 10.0.3? If that's the case, seeing as you are quite sure the battery is fine, I'd identify this as a firmware issue and suggest doing a downgrade to 10.0.3, if no one else provides further suggestions.

Before all that, if you didn't already, I'd recommend doing a soft reset (holding together the Home and Power buttons until the phone reboots and the Apple logo shows up) and checking the number of cycles your battery has (e.g.: using your pc or Mac), just in case the update to 10.1 isn't coincidental to the battery problems.

I upgraded to 10.1.1 this morning on my iPhone 6s Plus. I am now seeing the same thing others are seeing. The battery started dropping really quickly on my commute home from work (35 minutes today) from about 70% to suddenly I get a 20% low power notification. Within 10 minutes, it was down to 4% remaining. Unlike others, rebooting the phone didn't restore the power...it was still at 4%. Very very unhappy.

I should point out that the so called upgrade this morning took a very very long time...probably 30 minutes. Going from 10.0.3 to 10.1 only took perhaps 10 minutes.

I have the same issue when I upgraded to iOs10.1, the battery drains pretty quick unlike before in iOs 10.0.2 or previous version. I can see the battery percentage drops drastically while I'm using my iPhone in a short period of time.

I have never encountered this issue before. Last time when I fully charged my iPhone before going to sleep its normal that its still have 100% when i check in the morning. But its a different story now, it drops to 90% overnight. there also an instance that I still have 28% then drops to 6% while browsing the internet.

I just recently upgraded to iOs 10.1.1 and hoping that the issue will be solve, but I'm disappointed . So I'm pretty sure that this is a Os problem and hoping they could solve this ASAP.

I'm having this same issue. From a 100% charge I'm getting about 2 hours of battery life with ZERO usage during the 2 hours. This all began after I installed the software update 10.1.1. Never once did I encounter this battery life issue previously. I'm operating a new iPhone 7. Oddly I am also being continually prompted to verify my apple ID on my device. This is proving to be extremely irritating and I simply cannot use my phone as needed; to maintain power I must keep it plugged in to a power source. I will be taking the device into the Genius Bar in hopes they can solve this issue.

Praying for a software update fix to be released ASAP!

UPDATE!!!!

So here is an update to my original battery problem after I updated to iOS 10.1 and to iOS 10.1.1( still didn't work )

I just came back from Apple. They ran a diagnostic on my iPhone 5 and said the battery needs to be replaced. I found this funny since before the update I had amazing battery life. Better than most of my friends new phones. They said they could put in a new battery $100. I said what if it still didn't work......

After showing the guy this thread he said its most likely the iOS and would have to wait for further updates if apple finds this a problem.

Here are some suggestions.

1- DO NOT UPDATE TO THE NEW IOS 10.

2- Go to an apple store and get them to check your battery before and after the update if you have to update

3 - Write directly to apple and mention you are having battery drain since the iOS 10 update

4- Please post your problems and updates here. The updates are important so we have a record and we can see what apple is doing for each person that is having the battery drain.

Good luck!!!
