iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

I'm also encountering pretty severe and erratic battery drain on my iPhone 6S. I find that is suddenly drops several percentage points. The problem seemed to start at some point since iOS 10 was released but seems more pronounced since installing 10.1/10.1.1. I had my battery tested a couple of weeks ago at an AASP who said the battery was healthy.

I've run the battery all the way down and charged to 100% more than one. I've reset network settings, reset all settings and done a full restore. I have also done a DFU restore and set up the phone as new.

I've been in contact with Apple support who tested the battery remotely and said it is fine. They suggested I take it into my closest AASP to be looked at which I haven't yet had the opportunity to do.

Here's an example of what I seen happen. My battery had 12% remaining and within a couple of minuted drained down to 1% and then the phone shut off. I then managed to turn the phone on again (with a hard reset from the "charge battery" screen) and it booted up and reported 6% remaining and almost immediately shut down again. Here's a video of it happening:

I then managed to get it to boot up again and it reported 5% remaining and then shut down again:

This happened a few more times and then the phone wouldn't boot up until I charged it.

One operation in particular that seems to cause very fast drain is installing and updating Apps. I have tried the same on an iPhone 6 to which I temporarily restored my backup and haven't encountered any of the issues that I'm finding on the 6S.

I have the same issues on my Iphone 6 since upgrading to IOS10 and I haven`t noticed any improvements after installing the following versions, including IOS 10.1.1.

Meanwhile, I have disabled auto updates and all apps on the locking screen, closed all apps, turned off Wireless Lan and even without any or very limited usage, the battery is empty latest after 8-9 hours. And if the phone is used, because that’s the intention of having such a device, its often only a couple of hours.

In addition, the phone turns off when the battery is reaching 20%, sometimes later but I noticed also some shutdowns with a status of 40%.

I haven`t performed any resets until now because it looks like it doesn`t work. Even to contact apple directly sounds very useless based on the feedback from other users, which is very disappointing compared to the price of these devices.

For the moment, it looks like the only thing we can do is to have our fingers crossed and wait for an IOS bugfix but as this situation lasts now for several weeks without any clear statement from apple, I´m not sure if I would buy another iphone in the future.

Hi all

7 plus 128gb. I was having terrible battery drain with my 7 plus since 10.1.1. I did everything that has been discussed here. I took it in to Apple who told me that the battery is healthy. After some back and forth, the staff member told me that they would restore the phone as new and I could bring it back if the issues continued.

I tested for another week and the extreme battery usage continued. I went back today and had my 7 plus replaced (which was easier than I expected).

My new 7 plus is back to amazing battery life. I was hoping this was just a software issue. Maybe it isn't.

The silence is deafening from apple!! This problem is the 1st i have had with any iphone i have had and only stems from last 2 updates!! My iphone 6 mobile isnt so mobile now so much so infact i have 2carry round with me an external battery charger as cant trust the once reliable fone.. how i feel im thinking of turning to an android phone!! The whole thing as left me very very dissapointrd with apple being extremley quiet abt this problem!! Makes me wonder if they are so quiet as they dont want similar negativity/costs as 2what samsung had with the galaxy note 7 overheating/catching fire problem!! The amount of people on this thread cant all b wrong when we all seem 2have very similar problems!! COME ON APPLE WAKEY WAKEY!!

Same issue on my iPhone 6S since iOS 10.1. I've tried a regular reset, 'Reset all settings' twice, and 'Erase all data' to start from scratch: still see the battery draining so quickly I can only get through half a day with very light use before needing another recharge. I'm also seeing a similar drain on my iPad Air since the last iOS update.

I have a 6s plus just under1 year old. It would be a "flawless victory" by mortal Jim at standards in terms of battery life. With iOS 9 I could easily get a off the charger at 7am with a full charge to at least midnight under heavy usage or a day and a half with moderate use.

iOS 10 drains 10% battery per minute. That's why it's called iOS 10. It's horrible. I've seen my phone black out for no reason. I've seen it drop 30% after sending 3 emails and making 2 calls.

I've never had to concern myself with BAR ( background app refresh ) or other settings.

This just stinks! Apple Care + support hasn't been much help with this riddled with bugs iOS version either.

My useful battery life expectancy is 82% which seems very low for once a day charging over the course of 11 months. Apple wouldn't swap it and I will have to wait until it dips below to the 70 percentile. With iOS 10 that should only take another month with the fact I'm married to the charger now.

Ultimately if I can get a replacement with iOS 9 pre-installed I can live without the balloons in iMessage and other buggy nonsense!

Peace.

Same here with my iPad Air. Did notice something interesting while trying to locate what might be causing this. In previous devices, turning off the Background App Refresh, my battery life changed. Now I noticed that some apps, despite having turned off the BAR in General (Setting), still indicate that they are refreshing in the background (example my Wellsfargo and Kindle Apps). There is also no way to disable that from the screen either. It's locked off. I am wondering if it's like the windows 10 upgrade where to keep your computer from the lock screen you have to go to several areas of application on your computer to disable it.

I went a head and deleted a couple of these apps I felt I didn't need and could live without, I'll see if this improves any in a few days.

Well the plot thickens. GPS seems to have a mind of its own too. I noticed even though I have Location Services turned off, that dreaded arrow keeps pointing while using safari even though it's set to never. I guess iOS 10 just does whatever it wants to do the way Apple does with their pricing. I deleted Facebook and it seems that safari has taken its place as the battery guzzler.
