iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

Update: the new battery from Batteries+Bulbs is working well, with accurate battery life reporting and my iPhone is now lasting nearly as long as it used to when it was new. I'd rather spend $50 and prolong the life of my phone another year, than drop another $800 on a new phone. I would have liked to have gotten more life from the original battery, but I still love the phone.

I couldn't agree more. At work there's dozens of folks with iPhones not to mention the employees with company issued iPhones. I've asked several if they are experiencing strange battery issues. Most have said yes and either they replaced their phone with a newer iPhone model, android or just tried to live with it NONE of them knew about this forum or that there's a known problem.

I am sorry folks, I am on my last warning with Apple so I cannot post any controversial comments on here.

In the most famous and momentous advert for Apple, which suggested we break away from Big Brother in the 1984 Superbowl advert, Apple appear to have become Big Brother in 2016.

May I also add to the censors of this forum that the only reason I suggested what I did on the post you deleted is that Apple is completely ignoring the plight of it's customers.

Many of them have been with you for decades, like myself.

My suggestion was in order to elicit a response from Apple.

I have spent many hours of my time attempting to contact Apple via various means to find a way forward and I have had nothing.

I am lucky in that my phone is getting it's battery replaced free of charge but it is not the battery, it is IOS 10.

What about my wife on a 6, my daughter on a 5 who are all experiencing battery drain on IOS 10 and will no doubt need their battery replaced sooner rather than later?

My business partner has already moved to a OnePlus 3 handset because of it. How many more customers do you want to lose?

I am close.

All we want is honesty, clarity and a way forward.

Adrian.

There would be more replies if Apple didn't remove them, my post included. For the record, iPhone 6 running 10.1.1. Battery dying, phone shutting off randomly going from 53% to 1% to off. Genius Bar attendant suggests it's the way the phone is

used, or the apps like one that rhymes with "Placetook" that "is really bad at draining the battery" (I.e. Operator Error), not the battery, iOS.
