iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

I have been on the phone with tech support for a while. I was told there are 2 versions of 10.1.1 Surprised me. I'm backing up to iCloud now. When I connected ti iTunes, it offered me an update even though I already have 10.1.1 After backup, I'm going to proceed if I can. If not, I'm going to wipe it out and install the version that is offered on iTunes. If all else fails, you might want to try that too.

Curious if this helped. I am getting the option to install a different 10.1.1 from itunes.

I have been unplugged now for 20 minutes. Still at 100% Fingers crossed.

So visited the genius (???) bar today and as usual, they informed me that "My battery is fine". He did a firmware reset (holding home and side bar button via itunes). Right in front of him my batter level went from 50% to 27%. He said, there could be a problem with the logic board and that I can probably get a new phone (great information !!!!!!!!!).

Apple seriously what is going on. This is annoying to say the least.

I am now doing a reset and restore. More to come. Installing the "new" 10.1.1 didn't work.

My daughters iPhone 5 started doing this. I finally tried to see if I could fix it by enrolling her in the Beta program. I downloaded the latest Beta 10.2 Seven and the problem is worse now. Her phone shuts down and then won't recharge apparently unless I hold down the Home button and the on/off button until the phone reboots and the battery symbol show up again.

Also it seems that I can't use the regular charger for her phone.

Sometimes it will only begin to reset if I use the iPad charger.

Then it quickly goes back to 100%.

Since this 10.1 update on my iPhone 6s and iPad Air battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. This needs to be fixed.

10.1.1 has had a new build released. It's not a duplicate version but in fact a new re-released version.

Same problem here. iPhone 6 can die at any time having any percentage of battery (even 90%). When you plug it in, it will show the exact same percentage as when it died. It's incredibly annoying and I hope they are working on a fix quickly. But looking to the forum they must have fallen asleep!

Was that an official new 10.1.1 release? I didn't know. Anyway, it is no different in its battery draining capacity.

I have found out that the problems always show up if you are outside and it is cold.. Anybody can confirm this?

Depends on what you call cold. Apple says iPhones can be used between 0° and 35° Celsius.

I had this problem a few times with temperatures above 10°C.
