I am on an iMac running macOS 10.12.1 - My computer is showing updates available but when i open the app store, nothing shows up. Not only does nothing come up, the app store is not searching for any usually either. usually when you open the app store and go on the updates tab, its searches and then displays a no updates available message. but nothing is showing up for me.
I am seeing the exact same thing! The badge icon shows 5 but when I go into the update tab of the mac app store nothing is coming up. Only the ones installed in the last 30 days. I suspect the updates it is referring to are numbers, keynote, pages, imovie and garage band. I guess if you search for them in the store you can manually update them. That's what i did with keynote, it showed under it 'update' which when I clicked it duly did. Then badge icon changed down to 4. I'm not doing the remaining 4 as I want Apple to fix this glitch, they need to get their act together.
Tweet @AppleSupport to try and bring their attention to the issue. Might get a faster fix that way

Yes, I've had the same thing all afternoon.
Both the Mac App and iTunes Stores are having update problems.
Try again later or tomorrow.
Go to the Purchases tab and update them from there, i.e., Pages, Numbers, etc.
Here too. It has been such since the 10.12.1 update.
The new iTunes (post Oct 27) has brought the badge to 6.
A temporary solution is to browse the "Purchased" list and find those with the button "UPDATE".
Of course, for example, you won't be able to update iTunes, but at least the other recently updated apps (iWork, iMovie..)

Actually, doing it unlocked also the other updates (on the "updates" page of App Store). Now everything is installed! 🙂

Using the "Purchase" area worked. It did take a little longer than normal so they (Apple) must be having some sort of a little problem with updating. Thanks for the workable solution.
App store badge shows updates but nothing comes up
