I've posted on this topic before and I've read several posts stating the same problem. I did a test last night and I really feel that the problem is the mac version of iTunes. I took a random cd to work, a burned copy with some minor scratches, and tried to import it on our mac there. Guess what? I had the same problem! After that I tried to import the same cd on the IBM I use every day. That cd imported without one problem and seemed to import faster. I hope Apple is working on this issue because this is becoming very frustrating. Any additional info on this issue would be appreciated.
Does anyone think apple will sort this problem out ?
or has anyone . This is getting silly.

Apple usually sorts this stuff out. They just do it in their own good time. If you can get your hands on an older version of iTunes (I used 4.7 from an iLife '05 disc) it will solve the problem until they get around to it. It would be nice if Apple added a means of undoing an update for these situations. They seem to occur with regularity. Good luck.
I am experiencing the same problem when importing cds. Especially old scratched cds.
I have a suggestion for a possible fix for the problem. If you go to Prefrences, click on Advanced, Click on Importing, and uncheck the Use error correction when reading Audio CDs, iTunes may not lock up when importing cds.
On the older versions of iTunes I noticed that when I would import a scratched cd it would have a horrible annoying scratching sound on the tracks. I feel that the error correction is getting stuck trying to overcome the scratched areas. I think by unchecking the box the tracks will have the scratching sounds but I think it would not crash iTunes when importing songs.
It is a toss up of sound quality verses ease of use.
Running into the same problem ocassionally. But further, was just trying to update my iPod since adding new music from imported CDs, and now the update process is hanging on the same song each time (271 out of 417). Not responding to cancel or escape. That song apparently didn't cause a problem when I imported it, or I would have left it out.
