Itunes 12.5.3 keeps crashing

You have to use an administrator's account, so if the account you're using is a standard user (not an administrator), first type the following:

su [user ID of admin]

Then when prompted, enter the admin password, and then enter the command from above.

I didn't have a Previous iTunes Library and didn't need to rebuild it in any case. By the way, your solution also works for those who find that iTunes Match no longer matches anything.
