Horizontal Line on startup / boot

Hi,

My mac is a MacBook Pro 15" late 2011,

Graphics - AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

macOS - Sierra - 10.12.1 (16B2555)

Just recently when I boot up my mac the grey screen appears with the progress bar, when the progress bar gets to about half full a pixelated horizontal bar appears.

Then the screen flashes black for about a second, then the grey screen reappears without the horizontal line and boots normally and works fine.

Just some extra notes, I normally use a second monitor with my mac unless im at class and it works fine.

Also just recently sometimes it takes longer to shutdown, used to take 3-5 seconds can take ~45 seconds sometimes but not all times.

The last thing I noticed is that I always turn keyboard lights off and when I used to boot up it remembered that and kept them off. Now it seems to forget that and they always come on when I boot up.

Ive tried resetting SMC and PRAM with no success.

For the moment not.

I know that this problem appeared for me only on my MacBook Pro late 2011 when I upgraded it to Sierra. No issue on El Capitan.

Apple said that the 10.12.2 version will solved some graphic bugs... so there is a chance to see this issue disappeared in the next release, hopefully (maybe next week).

I'm not sure because I'm not an expert in hardware but maybe this horizontal lines are coming because there is (maybe !) a switch of the graphic cards during the boot (?). I didn't try to use gfxCardStatus plugin to see if there is a difference. Does someone try it ?

I took mine to the apple store and the guy said a lot of MacBook Pros the same age as mine have graphics card problems, graphics card test was run on mine and all the tests showed that my mac was fine.

The guy in the store also said that he has seen this on lots of older MacBook Pros ever since Yosemite. I didnt have the issue until Sierra, but it seems to be a software issue more than hardware

I took my laptop to the Apple Store yesterday and it passed all of the testing and they said my laptop is fine. I told them it happens after resetting the pram/nvram but the guy said he has seen it on several older MacBooks. Said it wasn't anything serious and problem might be fixed in a future software update. The update coming soon 10.12.2 will fix graphics issues on the retina MacBooks but he wasn't sure if our model was included. I also noticed that after updating to sierra I can now install Windows 10 according to what bootcamp says. El Capitan didn't allow me and apple states the 2011 MBP's aren't supported. The Apple Tech seemed surprised and didn't know why.
