Unknown error 8392

MacBook Air running Sierra 10.12.1, iTunes 12.5.3.17

Open Apps/ Updates

I try to update an individual App and it fails immediately with "Unknown error 8392"

I attempt a couple more times and it updates!

This was the case on the previous level of iTunes as well.

MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

I have had the same issue since downloading iTunes 10.5.2, and it got worse with iTunes 10.5.3. I have rebooted, authorized the machine, signed out and back in, all with limited effect. Sometimes I can update 3-4 apps before the message appears, sometimes it doesn't allow me to update at all. I have also tried right-clicking on each app icon to update, which has been more successful, but is a real pain.

I rang Apple about this error and they don't know what it is. They did assign a number to it but they still don't know what it is. Either that or the Apple Support when i ring from Australia are dumb lol. I get it on almost every update now and I have pretty much given up even bothering to update my phone or apps. Love to know the answer by some one smarter than an Apple support staff member

I have the same issue here with my imac runing El Capitan and iTunes 12.5.3.17. If I try to update apps individually I get the 8392 error if I try to - Update All - some apps may download but then iTunes hangs on one app download until I get an Network Time Out Error. This has been happening for a few months now. I first noticed it when the Store was taken down for the launch of iPhone 7. When the store opened again I couldn't download any app updates for several days. I currently have 88 apps waiting for an update in iTunes and all return the same error. There is also a problem on iPhone iOS app udates - this morning I had 12 updates waiting on my iPhone 6S+ and 4 of them refuse to update on my phone.

The workaround is painful. Just keep trying to update each app individually. With 88 updates that will take you quite a while.

I am starting to believe the problem is on the Apple end. Possibly timing out on accessing the download?????

I don't think the MAC/iPad/iPhone is the problem but I'm far from an expert.

I've been having the same problem very recently with 2013 iMac with macOS (10.12.1) and iTunes (12.5.3.17). Tried signing out and signing back in. I re-downloaded iTunes and re-installed. Has the look and feel of a problem Apple will likely fix at their end at some point. Most iOS Apps update on their respective devices anyway, and with iCloud Music Library and Photo libraries, I never need to sync anymore anyway. It's actually annoying that at this stage we need to manually update the copies of the iOS Apps through iTunes while the apps update nearly automatically directly in the devices.

I have spent over 3 hours with apple now to try to resolve it. They do not know what the issue is but it seems not to be our devices. Next step they told me is to escalate it to their Engineers to fix. They did tell me that my call was the first time they had heard of it. I directed them to search their own forums and suddenly they are paying attention. Funny about that. Guess they don't read their own forums.

For me it is now happening all the time on my Mac and most of the time on my phone.
