Permissions, keychains passwords, System preferences keep changing & lost files.

About a month ago I was playing/importing music with a (3rd party) media player while cooking dinner. All of the sudden the music stopped. My MBP had changed to a different user. I thought that I got hacked or something. So I changed my password and disconnected the external hard drive's that music was playing from. I locked myself out of my Mac because I was actually in guest user. I think the media player opened it because the files were from old iTunes libraries, guest user and shared folders. I think I ended up losing files in this process and permissions got changed. 😕 I've tried...disk utility first aid, booted in safe mode, keychain first aid, back up to Time Machine & reinstall OS X, delete 3rd party apps, install some updates and now this. Please help?? BTW I'm kinda new at trying to fix it myself. If more info is needed let me know.

Thanks.

If that Console error is because of the default filter you should post a bug report to Apple. http://apple.com/feedback/

It is also displaying an error message popup in the centre of your screenshot. Console is constantly logging an error - this is a good example of why many errors in console can be ignored - nothing bad is happening but the developer forgot to test something.

As for Time Machine, you need 3 times the size of your source or larger. In your case I would try to use a 1TB disk. A 500 GB disk is not going to save a lot of history, but it is better than nothing.

Thanks Drew

That was my next question. How do I submit a bug report. What do I do now, press this solved my question? I'm not sure which answer or if it was a combination of things like updating to Sierra. Some of my questions are resolved but i'm not sure still if my MacBook Pro is good yet. Even know the report says excellent. Is there a script to run to see if my MacBook Pro and my external hard drive's are infected at all? Or will the new operating system protect me from that.

Thanks again,

Galen

For the bug report just fill the details in for the form & pass along any info you have (mac os fits the topic I guess)…

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

There is no script or app to check your Mac is OK, sorry.

Run this if you want but OS X will stop many known malicious apps etc…

https://www.malwarebytes.com/

If you are not sure about it being solved just use it for a few days & see if you are happy with it if the original problems seem to be gone then mark it solved if you want.
