FCPX DVD export bad quality.

I have been exporting DVDs from FCPX for a number of years. Both off the timeline and also via compressor. The quality has always been, DVD quality.

Since the new update,10.3, the quality the has been very bad. I first thought it was compressor so I exported a test DVD direct from the timeline via > share > dvd > etc. Whats happening is there are sharp lines during movements on the video that are very distracting.

Anyone else having an issue like this since the new update?

Thanks Padraig.

I tried a direct share to Vimeo to see if the problems continued. It does look like an interlacing problem (it looked even worse on any attempts to burn a DVD which is why I wasn't sure initially). I'm sharing the link for you in case that helps to look at the problem. The project is for an all female gay amateur dramatic group. It's a filmed performance of their recent show which is a tongue in cheek murder mystery with a lot of innuendo. The link is password protected and I'll take it down in a couple of days once it's served its purpose. The password is: interlacing

I'd really appreciate any suggestions as to how to fix the issue. Thanks

Not knowingly, I assumed the project auto-set to the clip properties. Would you suggest I change the project settings? What to?

My DVD player linked up to the TV is playing everything back at the same quality that I'm getting on my computer screen. It seemed more blocky than interlacing when viewed from the DVD. I'm uploading an example to dropbox for you but it's taking a while...

I did create an interlaced project, added evwilko's file, and used Share->DVD to export straight to a disk image.

Viewing the disk image in DVD Player, even in full screen, I could see an image that is quite soft, as expected, but I could not see much interlacing artifacts. I certainly did NOT see the jarring lines evwilko is seeing in his mac.

Actually, the only place where it is readily apparent (for me) that the original is interlaced is at the beginning, where there is a very fast zoom. Even then, interlacing is much blatant in VLC, and more subdued in Quicktime Player.

Similarly, interlacing is much more visible on the output DVD, when viewed in VLC, as opposed to DVD Player.

Same thing here. I believe it to be a problem after FCPX gets the file. My camera has been the same for years. I updated to El Capitian and the updated FCPX and "BAM". Sent out around 500 dvd. All junk. The files can not be fixed after FCPX imports it. Also you can go back to older FCPX and get the new updated library. Again junk. Once the new version gets a hold of the camera file your done for folks.

I re installed on another Mac Pro the FCPX 10.2.3 I do happen to have a few of the SD cards left. Most all deleted and can do nothing about it now. I had not reason to check these because my process has been the same for years.

The dvd you can't even watch. Complete junk.

Its either an import problem destroying the great looking camera files or its on the ProRes side after you make the "create optimized media" selection.

I did happen to make a few BluRays in the mist and figured I could pull them back in. The BluRays look ok on TV but after importing back for another go at a Dvd look the same. The files are being destroyed on import. Same issues.

Would someone like to give us some direction on a solution? I am sure I am not the only one that has put in 200 hours trying to salvage the train wreck.

1-what is the problem? dvd...bluray...import...camera files being corrupted...

2-is it fixed? if not when...if so which one...

3-which one works the best? version...

please come up with a "plan" to correct the nightmare for the people that are dealing with it

post: "here" is the fix/solution...something~!!!!!
