FCPX DVD export bad quality.

I have been exporting DVDs from FCPX for a number of years. Both off the timeline and also via compressor. The quality has always been, DVD quality.

Since the new update,10.3, the quality the has been very bad. I first thought it was compressor so I exported a test DVD direct from the timeline via > share > dvd > etc. Whats happening is there are sharp lines during movements on the video that are very distracting.

Anyone else having an issue like this since the new update?

Thanks Padraig.

Are you exporting (sharing) directly from FCP or sending to compressor? I'm normally a compressor guy (as I have multiple outputs for the same project). I have noticed that my standard one for DVD was a two-pass method. For a large project I just finished (that was the first in the most recently released/update FCP X) I discovered that the two pass method actually made for worse/jittery dvd's. Stepping back to single pass solved the problem.

Your problem looks different (almost like an aliasing), but might be worth a look.

That's right Matt, it does kind of look like aliasing. I've always exported directly from FCP and it was just fine until 10.3.1. Last night, I actually opened a previous project and burned the DVD (which in September, pre-update, had looked just fine) and it had that same aliasing, jittery look. Can't sort it out. I don't use compressor, but I'm about to buy it and see if it helps matters (I suspect it will, but pretty annoying that an "update" introduced this issue)

We have the exact same problem. After the update to 10.3, DVDs looks exactly the same as your video sample. We did not have this issue before the update. Also, the audio has crackles and pops that were never there before the update. Even when making an MP3 audio file from the video, it has these pops. This is coming from both FCP or going thru Compressor.

Right now we are backed up in our DVDs productions since all come out with very poor quality.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help,

Marcos
