iPhone 7 Plus Matte Black Paint Chipped

I have been using iPhone 7 Plus Matt Black for about one month with fully covered by a TPU casing and full screen tempered glass most of the time. I just open the casing once a week to wipe the dust off from the phone. Until yesterday when I take off the casing, and notice there is something at the edge of the phone body next to UP Volume button. At first I thought it just the dust. I try to wipe it using microfibre cloth as usual. Until I look closely it is the metal part of the body. It seems that the black anodised paint had been chipped off from the phone body. I am really disappointed with what happen to the phone because I was using it very careful.

I have chat with Apple Customer Support and it is not covered under warranty since it is under cosmetic damage. Seems that the anodised paint quality on iPhone 7 is same as what is on iPhone 5. The iPhone 7 body paint will chipped at anytime regardless you are using it very careful. Just to share with you guys 😉User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

My case might be even worse. The paint at the back of the iPhone started to chip off very heavily. First there were some bubbles building up and then when I put the iPhone on a table the paint chipped off completely.

I was at an Apple Store complaining about it but they didn't know how to classify my case so I didn't get a new phone for free. But the Apple Support hotline helped me out and asked me to send pictures of my phone. These pictures now have been sent to the engineers in California and I'm waiting for feedback...

Will keep you posted.

alright, just got the final note - it is a cosmetic issue therefore they will do nothing...that is cool! I asked them if it would be a cosmetic issue as well, if their new Audi came with the same problem. Would it be enough if it was able to drive? Is that the new apple? Paying Porsche getting Fiat? I am going to switch my entire hardware. Next notebook won't be a Mac anymore.

I use the mophie iPhone 7 Plus Juice Pack Air case. I do not see any paint chips on my phone. I am curious to hear what cases some of you have? I know when dirt gets under the case, it can rub against your phone with general movement. This can cause some of the issue that you we are seeing.

I regularly clean my phone and case of dust, to help prevent this.

Im using an iPhone 7 Matt black phone and I have the same issue in my volume down button.

I have always loved the apple products but every time apple go for huge change in the product there's always a small issue. This makes the question weather I should buy the next years 10th Anniversary iPhone X/8 at very first time?

Hope apple will issue all these small small this and make their products better.

When I first saw the matte black on release I thought this might happen. I have the Galaxy Note 4 and it gets scratches on the Aluminium edges easily and is also a design flaw.

The fact Apple are refusing to sort this under warranty is abysmal. With the margin they make on these devices things like this should be replaced with no hassle.

Typical Apple. Poor quality and expensive prices.

I have an iphone 7 matte black and is in the case from the 1st day.

I have noticed that the paint is gone in some places on the back of the device as the most of you.

I searched about it and I read that apple says that is not going to cover this problem by warranty cause is a cosmetic damage.

Well this is a funny answer to me cause the phone is brand new and is not my fault that the color is gone, is apples fault so they need to fix it.

That is why we are covered by warranty, means that is everything is wrong with the device and is not my fault they need to fix it, that is why we pay that money. what means is cosmetic, I pay apple for the color as well. I did not paint the phone, they did.

Simple.

That really stinks. I got the matte black iPhone 7 three weeks ago. I really hope this doesn't happen to me but if it does and they don't do anything about it I'm getting a different type of phone next time. I had tons of problems that all of a sudden came about with my iPhone 6 that I purchased in September 2015 so I upgraded to the 7. This company is just putting there greed before customer support these days. I really hope something is done about this.

I had exactly the same problem, the color chipped off next to the speaker. For my case it was exactly under the edge of the Original Leather Case and had the same shape. I showed that to a Apple Store and they immediately said its cosmetic damage so its not covered. Then i checked the Apple Support Chat and told them that i think the damage was actually caused by the Leather Case because it looked like this, then they said they can only propose to an Apple Store to exchange the device but don't give me any promise about that since its still the decision of the Apple Store employee. Next day i want to an Apple Store and got a replacement. They also replaced the case. Very good.
