iPhone 7 Plus Matte Black Paint Chipped

I have been using iPhone 7 Plus Matt Black for about one month with fully covered by a TPU casing and full screen tempered glass most of the time. I just open the casing once a week to wipe the dust off from the phone. Until yesterday when I take off the casing, and notice there is something at the edge of the phone body next to UP Volume button. At first I thought it just the dust. I try to wipe it using microfibre cloth as usual. Until I look closely it is the metal part of the body. It seems that the black anodised paint had been chipped off from the phone body. I am really disappointed with what happen to the phone because I was using it very careful.

I have chat with Apple Customer Support and it is not covered under warranty since it is under cosmetic damage. Seems that the anodised paint quality on iPhone 7 is same as what is on iPhone 5. The iPhone 7 body paint will chipped at anytime regardless you are using it very careful. Just to share with you guys 😉User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

Update guys.i went to the apple service center near me .they said the same thing .cosmetic defects are not covered under warranty.a guy on apple telephone helpline even went ahead and said that this was an expected product behaviour.he did tell me that the manager at the apple service center could make an exception if he wanted but i wasnt so lucky.however one of the staff was helpful enough to give me a way out.albeit an expensive one.she told me that i could purchase an apple care insurance .and then use the phone to my fill and just 'drop' it by mistake and get a totally new phone by paying a 5% cost on the mrp of the phone.i think this might be the best course of action because my phone also has a issue when i can hear a click if its pressed under the right hand corner of the phone.guess i am just gonna get that

Hi everyone,

I bought iPhone 7 128gb matte black just on 1st Feb, 2017 and protected with tempered glass screen protecter and casing with Spigen Rugged Armored just almost all the time, I handle my precious iPhone with very carefully and cleaning often since I have it, but today 4th April, 2017 after I have removed casing for clean up I was surprised with some white dot on the edge between the middle right of the phone just below power button first I toght it might be a small dust so I use delicate cloth to wiped it off but the dust still remain there. When I close look carefully I found out that it is not just a dust but it is the color chip even it very small but it still noticeable easily and it annoying me everytime I am look at it. Even Apple claimed that it is cosmetic damage but it make apple product loyalty reduces enormously. I think apple should do something better to solve and prevent this. Thank you everyone to let me share my disappointment on using iPhone 7, I been using iPhone 5s gold color and it works just fine it still solid even I has been using it for 3 years.

I had the same issue. Ended up calling apple support on the phone who made a ticket and documented the case and made a Genius Bar appointment. They said that they needed to make sure there were no signs of damage before they replaced it. Apple Store Genius Bar was really amazing and pretty much instantly looked at it, made sure it has never been dropped, also noted that the location of the peeling was not typical of accidental damage and replaced it for free.

Of note I think the key is my phone has never been dropped and the screen was fairy pristine showing that I take care of it and the damage wasn't caused by me.... if your phone is in rougher shape (scratches, dents, cracked screens) they probably won't replace it.

I have an Iphone 7 matt black and was told by someone of these issues, so I thought I'd take mine out of the case that I've had it in since it arrived, to find ( shock horror😮 ) loads of tiny marks on the back. I dont know how this could have happened and maybe there was some kind of dust particle on it ?? but it has completely ruined my phone !!!
I always updated my phone to buy the newer model every 18 mths. Because my phones have always been in excellent condition I have always got a great secondhand price for them. No one will want this one, so these scratches have decreased its value alarmingly.
Has anyone had any success with getting a replacement ? can the outer casing on the actual phone be replaced if not ??

My hubby has the Samsung S7, the build and quality is far superior. I would be tempted to go over to the Samsung, but my life is so geared towards Apple it would be impossible to change now. I have an iwatch, Ipad, Macbook etc and everything just seamlessly syncs. If it wasn't for this it would be ta ta iphone. I will say though that previously I've always had silver or gold and they have been 100% perfect when I've sold them..lesson learnt...no more BLACK !!!!

I've got a 7 Plus matt black, the paint has been chipping of on the lower part of the phone, on the speaker grid and next to the lightning connector. I took it to a Genius Bar, they looked at it and they told me that it was a cosmetic damage and they wouldn't replace it.

The only option I was given was to pay almost half of the cost of the phone to get a replacement. Pathetic and ridiculous as I've never dropped the phone and it has always been in a case.

Apple should take responsibility but they won't.

I am frm Singapore. Same thing happened to me, got my phone less than 2 months ago and it started peeling off and now has becoming a bigger patch. Called Apple and advised to bring down to service centre.

They can't do anything about it. So they took photos of the peeling and escalated to Apple. They came back to me and told me it is a cosmetic issue and won't fal under warranty. Really?

The phone is under 2 months old, never drop or mis handled. In a stupid Apple leather case since day one. Good job Apple.

probably this will be my last product and last post here. They really treat customer like a piece of garbage.

I'm from Singapore and I just bought my new red iphone 7 plus , and the frame around the dual camera has a small chip on it as well I am extremely disappointed. I have bought an official Apple leather case since day one.

I just made a chat with Apple and now they have made an appointment to call me back tomorrow morning at 9

Fingers cross that they will replace it for me , but I highly doubt it

Good luck to you Philiplcy.

It is a very expensive lesson. So no we know.....DO NOT get any fancy color phone produced by Apple moving forward. The only safe color to get is the silver Iphone. Not red, not black. Or rather Apple should just stick to silver since their product have this serious issue but too thick skin to acknowledge it.

I would rather the phone blow up like the note 7 so I can get a new one rather than sticking to this paint peeling phone.
