iPhone 7 Plus Matte Black Paint Chipped

I have been using iPhone 7 Plus Matt Black for about one month with fully covered by a TPU casing and full screen tempered glass most of the time. I just open the casing once a week to wipe the dust off from the phone. Until yesterday when I take off the casing, and notice there is something at the edge of the phone body next to UP Volume button. At first I thought it just the dust. I try to wipe it using microfibre cloth as usual. Until I look closely it is the metal part of the body. It seems that the black anodised paint had been chipped off from the phone body. I am really disappointed with what happen to the phone because I was using it very careful.

I have chat with Apple Customer Support and it is not covered under warranty since it is under cosmetic damage. Seems that the anodised paint quality on iPhone 7 is same as what is on iPhone 5. The iPhone 7 body paint will chipped at anytime regardless you are using it very careful. Just to share with you guys 😉User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

It's just been two days that I own my new Matte Black iPhone 7 and sadly the top volume button paint has started to come out and the aluminium below is visible. I owned an iPhone 6 Space Grey for 2 years and never faced such an issue. Should have researched more before buying. It really feels bad to pay such an hefty amount for a phone and suddenly you feel your phone is looking old in just two days of use. 😟 This is really bad Apple.

Hey guys I've just had success with apple on this problem!
My Jet Black iPhone 7 started to flake around both of the speaker/microphone grills on the bottom and I managed to gain some sympathy by the repair place I went to and they sent it away, here I am a week later with a new phone replacement! I'm so happy, hope it all works out with your problems!
Note: Im in New Zealand

This happened with me too. Colour started coming off the bottom grill on the right side.

Initially, I contacted Apple Store with a Genius Bar appointment, and explained to them that the colour is coming off without any abrasion or point of contact. The employee there agreed that there was indeed no abuse to iPhone, but told me that the only way he could address this issue was by registering it as a "accidental damage", requiring me to pay 359€ for changing the body. Though the employee there understood my situation, he was helpless, and told me to contact Apple Support for this issue.

Later, I did contact Apple Support via chat, and explained the same stuff, along with pictures. They considered it, and set up an appointment again with Apple Store, saying that the store would assess my device and would be able to see an exception in my case. I just went to store today, they saw the device, and agreed to replace it free of cost.

I think that though Apple tells about cosmetic damage on first meeting, you may pursue the case by clearly explaining them why it is Apple's fault. Worked for me.

Cheers!

So glad I am not the only one my i7 looks worse the second time around then it did the first time around with it. I had to get it replaced once already for an issue with wifi. However its not just the body that is easily damaged I have found that with a full 360 life proof case on the phone not only is the paint suffering so is the screen I have a ton of scratches on both the back side of my matte black as well as the screen. They are to the point I got the apple store manager to scream holy **** when he saw the condition of my iPhone 7 vs the flawless iPhone 4 that i use as an iPod now

Hi,

Could you give some advice on how to explain clearly to Apple staff? I also face same case as you. My iphone 7 plus jet black's speaker part Color chipped off unconsciously yesterday. I have no idea on how the quality of Apple product is so poor. I never come across this matter. Pls guide me what should I know. Tq. ( see the picture - white dots - jet black was flake off)

Sadly I do not think apple will replace the phone free of charge perhaps a discounted price to fix it providing you have apple care. I was told by the apple store as well as by the manager that cosmetic damage is not covered for a free replacement. Even after I showed them my iPhone 4 which was flawless and then pulled my iPhone 7 out of its case to show them the poor quality of the phone they still replied with either pay to get it replaced under apple care or not. The only reason why I got my first iPhone 7 matte black replaced is because the genius bar determined that the wifi card in the phone was bad. That was not the reason I bought it in but that was discovered when they ran it through their AST software. Sadly both my iPhone 7 matte blacks suffered the same damage even though they were both put in a lifeproof case.

Keep trying my friend and don't give up.

Call customer services and complain. Complain about the Apple Store to head office.

It took me weeks to get mine replaced free of charge.

This is a manufacturing fault. It effects a small number of handsets but that's not our fault. Apple should do the right thing and own this issue. The cosmetics of the phone is important to the product that apple sells. It's part and parcel of the package. Yes it can still make calls but we don't just purchase the phone to make calls right? We are also sold on how it looks. If the damage is through no fault of your own and likely down to the shoddy paint job why should you be made to suffer with that BS!

Keep complaining my friend. Apple still have good people working for them somewhere in their company and one of them will help you ... eventually

I was very close to making a small court claim against Apple under the sales of goods act. It's risky but when you are treated like 💩 you have to fight back. But lucky for me on my third go at an Apple Store they replaced the handset just like that.

So don't you dare give up!!!

Yeah I have been going back and forth for weeks now. I am tired of wasting gas time and effort trying to get this issue resolved. The closest I came was when they asked me how I knew about their AST services yet still treated me like **** when they found that I am a certified apple tech, and service provider. I will simply wait until my lease is up and then its bye bye apple

My case was a lot different when I went to apple, the Genius Bar rep concluded that my life proof was never removed from day one due to the amount of dust build up on the seems. He also indicated that there was no damage to the case indicating a drop or fall. Upon consulting with the manager and having their own Genius Bar employee confirm it's a faulty phone the manger still insisted that cosmetic damage is not covered under warranty or eligible for free replacement

Hi Sir,

Apple took up my picture yesterday. Thus u can not see the picture. I just saw your attached picture. Yes. My situation is same as yours. My phone Color is coming off. Yesterday I have contacted Apple care centre in Singapore and already sent many pictures to prove that it is a faulty coating process. They said this is the first time they came across, so they need to investigate this.

I will go down the Apple shop and see what is the solution for this.

I discovered a fairly large chip on my iPhone matte black about 1.5 weeks ago. It has been in one of the Apple silicone cases since day 1 so there was no way I could've done it as I take care of my devices. I brought it over to the new Apple Store on Orchard where the genius told me that they don't cover cosmetic issue and asked me to try calling AppleCare directly, which I did. I wand transferred to one of the supervisors, whom was so graciously understanding, and asked me to send some photos of my chipped iPhone. I did, and within two days, he made an exception for me to replace my iPhone since it does indeed look like the chip was not due to any damage/drop. I then just went over to an authorized apple service provider, who gladly swapped the phone for me after seeing my case documents/files from AppleCare. Awesome service!

No they wouldn't replace it since it was cosmetic damage, so I gave AppleCare a call and they made an exception for me based on my photos and told me to go to one of these authorized apple service providers, QCD or A.LAB, since the new retail store on Orchard is too new and they don't have a "proper" service center yet. Make sure you get authorization from AppleCare first before going otherwise the store will most likely not do anything about it. All they had to do was pull up my case file to see the exception made to replace and they'll gladly do it.

Thoroughly disappointing customer survilance and servicing , I bought an apple iPhone7 and the colour standing peeling off and fading over all the edges within a time span of few weeks and afternoon visiting the service centre they straight away denied based of the guideline saying it's not a manufacturers fault hence doesn't come under warranty ! I mean what " Whos fault is it - may be mine for buying and believing iPhone quality " , I was always the first person to buy the newly launched phone and now I feel like throwing it on their face for lettting their customers helpless !! **** product quality and **** customer servicing even after customers being genuine and honest , I would not leave a chance to sue them , hope will find a way soon !!
