Colors distorted after sleep (macOS Sierra)

Hi all,

I'm currently on macOS Sierra (10.12.2 bèta (16C41b)) on a Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) even though I've opted out of the bèta program, but that isn't the issue here 😉

Whenever I open my l laptop and get out of 'standby mode' my colors are distorted. There are pink/purple lines all over my screen. It is not a hardware issue I believe, because when I scroll the distorted colours move along with it. I'll try and make a picture of it but it dissappears most of the time after 5-10 seconds.

Anyone else having this issue and/or knows how to resolve this?

Kind regards,

Robin.

For how long does this distorted screen linger? Mine, it's just very quick, like really just a fraction of a second. I also noticed that it doesn't happen all the time. It only happens when my mac's directly exposed to a light source like a lamp or if it's behind a window and direct sunlight comes in. I don't know it's weird. But if the lighting is a bit dim or it's not directly exposed to light, it doesn't have that distorted screen when recovering from sleep.

Apple did the same for me. They did hardware test on my macbook air. They even did remote access so that they can get the logs of my mac. After that, they said my mac was within the working standard parameters. I complained again and Apple agreed to do a second diagnostics. I brought it back to the service center and based on their 2nd diagnostics, all hardware on my mac is working fine. Apple won't confirm nor deny that it's the High Sierra update that's causing this.

My manufacturer's warranty has expired so am I expected to pay if I take my laptop to the Genius Bar? That would not be fair! I didn’t bother contacting Apple today to reinstall the macOS because clearly, it's a problem with their new macOS High Sierra as prior to installing it, my laptop was just fine. I just hope a new update can fix this issue as I don’t want it to escalate! 😕

While the result of the second diagnostics were negative - meaning all hardware of my mac is within standard working condition parameters, the issue still persists. If it’s a glitch, fine! I hope they fix it.

I’m just worried that with the constant static screen, I hope it won’t eventually ruin the logic board.

My warranty expires in Feb 2018

This is the exact same problem I have right now!!! 😟 It just shows it for a fraction of a second then it goes back to normal. I thought something happened to my MacBook while I was away at work or something! I know that I've never dropped it or even wet it... so I thought to look it up and wow! Found out I wasn't the only one with the problem!

Pls let me know when this is solved!!!! Thank you!!!

Oh, & Happy belated Thanksgiving!

PS. My MBP is the latest 13" 2017 version. So it doesn't only happen on 2015 versions :-/

Hey Guys, How are doing with your problems with the static screen? It has been a long process for me but still no light in sight. I had it diagnosed with an authorised service provider twice and the result was it passed all hardware test. Wanting to be assured, I brought it to another authorised service provider for my peace of mind. I got my MacBook Air just the other the day. So far during day 1 of observation, the major static was gone.

Back at work today, voila the static has come back to haunt be. But as per my observation previously, this static only happens when the MacBook Air is directly exposed to light or if your outside and the sun is brightly shining.

Apple will not replace my unit but they still don't know how to resolve this. They say that they don't see the static screen when they were diagnosing it. At the same time, I have to trust that when two independent bodies tell my my Mac is fine, then my Mac is fine...but then again...that static screen is still there...

Exactly how it happened to me. Bought my late 2015 13” macbook air last feb and after 9 months, my screen had a horizontal line. After replacing the screen it was only then that i started noticing the static screen after wake. I thought it had something to do with my mac being repaired incorrectly. Until someone had asked me if i updated to high sierra, it was only then that i put two and two together. 2 weeks before my screen was replaced, i updated to high sierra.

How old is your mac before you had the screen replaced?

My MBAir was working perfectly fine when i bought in feb this year. Then early part of oct, i updated to high sierra. Then one day there was a horizontal line on my screen end to end. Both had nothing to do with each other.

Then my screen was replaced. then i started seing the static screen when waking up. I’m just so ****** because at 9 months old, my mac shouldn’t conk out this fast. Second frustration is this existing bug due to high sierra update. And apple would not admit it. I wanted to have my mac replaced but they didn’t want to.

My screen was replaced earlier this year in April/May because of some dead pixels issue. I had Googled back then and apparently, the 2015 models (which I actually bought in 2016 as that was the latest one at that point) had some issues with dead pixels showing up on screens. Apple replaced my screen free of charge and I haven’t faced any issues until now when I upgraded to macOS High Sierra. I am starting to believe that their 2015 model was the worst of all their MacBook Pro releases!
