Hold down the keyboard button in the bottom right. Select 'undock', then select it again and click 'dock'.

If that doesn't work try split.

It's finally fixed in iOS 11

Did eveyone try the 'hold down the keyboard button' bottom right, and change / change back.

(A bit vague, don't have an iPad in front of me.) 😟

Posting here is not getting any word to Apple. I'm sorry you are the last poster here, and I just was reading this. I've got an iPad Mini 4, and no one else that I know of has experienced this issue. The only way to let Apple know about this is to provide feedback, or to contact Support and open a case. This is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here. Go to http://www.apple.com/feedback and select the iPad, then provide the information for Apple to see it. This is the only thread I know of that shows this, but it seems there are almost 2 pages here now. Not sure why it seems to be intermittent.

Da*n it... ios 11 is coming out and Apple is unable to fix this simple thing.

Problem persists regardless of restarting.

I Have the same problem on my iPad Pro 9.7". It worked fine until upgrading to iOS 10 and continues with 10.2. Restarting only fixes it temporarily.

It just happened to me, and I just used the iPad 5 mins ago. It seems pretty random other than trying to use the iPad on a different orientation to what I used it earlier - i.e. Turning it while on standby. the keyboard for all other apps works fine, it's only the search keyboard that has the issue.

Thanks for responding. But this is a problem with a lots of ipad pro users. Providing instructions on how to restart an ipad doesnt address this issue. Whould it be possible to forwad the issue to the appropriate team to get fix started?

I have EXACTLY the same problem. It happens several times per day and is annoying - particularly when I am trying to take notes during business meetings. Surely this can't be a difficult bug to locate.

i do wonder whether having the Smart Keyboard connected but not activated is contributing to the issue.

And I have the same problem too with my IPad Pro, been like it ever since IOS 10 release. I have only used IPad today because it's going on EBay, got a far better tablet from Google and at least google developers talk to you. This is a very basic bug and what do Apple do about it?

They can't even apologise and say they are sorting it.

Hi, I was having the same problem. Just tried going to navigation screen.

1. Open keyboard upside down by touching search field

2. Swiped up and pressed lock screen.

3. Turned upside down

4. Took lock screen off

5. Closed keyboard and when opened it again it was the right way up

Don't know longevity of this fix as only just did it but it seemed to work.

I have installed iOS 11 public beta on my iPad Air 2 and having been using it it for 3 days I can cautiously report that my keyboard issue hasn’t materialised once in that time. From unwanted keyboard rotations 3-4 times per day i am cautiously optimistic that this problem is resolved at least for me in iOS 11.

I am not necessarily recommending that people install this beta version as there are still many bugs to be fixed and of course it could render your iPad useless. There are also many non iOS 11 qualified applications that may not work at this point and I wouldn’t expect much if any support just yet. I was willing to take the chance because the problem had got so bad I had almost stopped using my iPad and it is relatively straight forward to revert back. As a side note….. I am quite impressed with iOS 11 and although I have stumbled across a couple of known issues my iPad user faith has been restored.

Further to my last post I did find a couple more issues with IOS 11 which has forced me to restore back to IOS 10. This involves a full factory restore using the iPad recovery mode. Rather than running an apps and data restore after the factory restore I decided to simply download the apps again as all my data is now cloud based. Interestingly I haven't experienced the KB issue on iOS 10 since. I know it’s only been since yesterday afternoon but as I said before, I was experiencing this issue 3-4 times a day! Fingers crossed this has resolved the issue. As a point of interest My wife has an identical iPad Air 2 and has never seen this problem.
