iCloud Notes not syncing across all devices

After spending 2.5 hours via online chat and phone with Apple Support today, I've verified all of my settings are correct and my devices are all running the most current software versions.

I've signed out of iCloud and back in to iCloud on all devices, deleted notes app and reinstalled (on iOS only) toggled Notes on and off in iCloud settings over the course of multiple device restarts without success.

I created test notes (device name, time and date) on each device to see if they were syncing, and every test note remained on it's device of origin. I logged in to iCloud.com, and the test note created there populated immediately on all devices.

My affected devices are as follows:

  • iPhone 7 Plus 256 - running iOS 10.1.1
  • iPad Pro 128 - running iOS 10.1.1
  • MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Early 2015) - running macOS Sierra 10.12.1

Apple is aware of the issues, apparently they are receiving plenty of calls about this very issue this afternoon.

They have scheduled a call back with me tomorrow afternoon, hopefully everything is sorted out by then.

I check if it starts to work once a week. It's still broken.

Meanwhile I recommand Bear App for iOS/Mac. It's with subscription but if you decide to buy a 1 year subscription, you will get 1 month free trial (paymant runs after trial).

And that's my deadline. If iCloud will start to work within the month I will cancel subscription and stay with iCloud. If the subscription will start and I'll pay for Bear, I will stick with it for at least a year.

I was considering goin back to evernote but it's too heavy when it comes to loading times and user interface. Too many features for simple purpose. Bear is as lighweight as Note.app and looks stunning.

I installed 10.12.3 Beta (16D17a) on one of my iMacs yesterday, and that iMac is now syncing properly with iCloud (both directions)

In response to payner96, I had a Carbon Copy Cloner backup of an iMac from around the end of October (10.12.1) so booted from that image and found Notes was syncing fine with that.

Also had a phone call from the tech support person I've been speaking to and he confirmed it is an acknowledged bug and will be fixed with a patch/update for macOS and iOS.

Given it's a recognised problem, I'm not going to play around any more, I'll wait for the fixes, but having switched to using Google Keep as a result of this issue, I don't actually need either Notes or Reminders now since Google Keep gives me both.

Cheers

Simon

It might be worth having another look at the link Vol24 pointed to:

http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/icloud-notes-suddenly-syncing-one-way-only.2 015541/

There's been some success there independent of the awaited update from Apple.

In particular, the most recent suggestions there (briefly, enable debug on Notes on macOS device, reset some of the settings, delete Notes app from iOS device, reinstall app on iOS, enable syncing) seem to be met with some success.

Given that Apple know it's a problem, I guess it's up to the individual whether to try the "workaround" or wait for an update if you want to keep using Notes.

From what I can guess about the workaround, it's doing some kind of "reset" on the backend that kicks it back into life (OK, I'm sure it could be put better than that !)

Personally, I've lost a bit of faith now which is a shame, but that's the way it goes.

Cheers and happy new year

I DID IT !!!!!

At least it worked for all my devises

I had the problem of “one way sync” from Icloud.com to macOS or to iOS, but not the other way around.

This solution came from what was suggested from Vol24 with a little difference and fixed macOS sync and iOS sync (both ways) tried in two different iPhones + MBP Retina + iPad pro and it fu**ing works…

Here is What I did

First fix the Mac

1. Back up all your notes !!!

2. Open terminal and enable the Debug menu with the following command: defaults write com.apple.Notes DebugModeEnabled -bool true

3. From the debug menu in notes, select:

1. Delete Data (delete from iCloud)

2. Reset iCloud Migration

4. You will Get the same screen you got when notes was first upgraded

5. Close notes and open it again

6. Create a note on iCloud and in notes… synced both ways

Then Fix iOS

1. If you check iOS, sync still broken

2. Delete the Notes app

3. Download the app again

4. Enable iCloud notes

5. Check both ways sync

Thanks Vol24 !!!

Hope it works for everyone, this thing was driving me crazy

Update: and it failed again, did a delete on some notes on the mac and the update has not been synced, or the new notes I added after the first initial success....guess we have to wait for apple to fix?

Excellent! Thanks for the help, notes back working again between iCloud, iPhone & mac after several weeks of failure.
