MacBook Pro late 2016 three finger drag issue

Not sure if this is a general problem with MacBook Pro late 2016 or just my machine is having this problem. Try to enable three finger drag on it and do a 3 finger drag gesture on bottom left of the trackpad, there are 40% chance that it's wrongly detected as secondary click. Sometimes it failed to detect 3 finger drag at the middle of the trackpad as well.. this is really annoying as this is one of the most used gesture on a computer...

This is ridiculous. point being on previous MacBook pros this feature JUST WORKED. Shouldn't have to use work arounds etc. especially for new equipment. It really is like the "your holding it wrong" argument all over again. There is clearly an issue here. We should demand better of Apple otherwise improvement will never happen. When you buy something new if should work 100%. No question. When you bought your MacBook Pro did you pay the full amount or just sort of the amount? Would Apple allow you to leave the store only paying sorta the total. Right.:)

I have a 15" and same issue. My three finger drag works reliably 100% of the time only on the RIGHT half of the trackpad. Any three finger interaction with the left half of the trackpad almost always fails. So now I've just gotten used to only dragging with three fingers on the right side. Good thing that the trackpad is huge, bad thing for lefties =(

For those on the fence about buying this Macbook no, I mean Pro. 🙂 Here is a quick list of what's missing and some of the known issues of the new Macbook Pro.

• Dedicated USB 3 Ports --you will need dongles/adapters hanging from your sleek new machine!!

• Dedicated SD Cardslot -- No more reading pictures from your camera card! Needs DONGLE. 🙂

• Dedicated Thunderbolt -- Videographer ? Too bad no speedy video transfer for you. Adapter/Dongle Needed.

• HDMI out port -- Can no longer plug into a TV or Projector. Dongle/Adapter needed. You have one in your pocket right

• Magsafe Power port -- No more Trip safe cord, or easy to connect power cable.

• EtherNet port (gigabit) -- No more secure internet. Use wireless so you can be sniffed and hackers can use your Credit

• Optical Drive -- No more CD.DVD.Burning, movie watching offline.

• Security Lock port -- Organizations, Schools, Museums, now lookout.. no more table top lock system!!

• Laser Engraved Battery status Monitor -- Can no longer tap the little button on the side, to peek at your battery level.

• Infrared Receiver -- Can no longer use as a remote, or receive remote commands

• Backlit Apple Logo on back -- Purely cosmetic, however the new non-lit apple logo finger prints up ugly.

* Lower price -- Despite removing all the above features, price moved up + ~ $100-500 !!

On top of all this reports have come to show the new macbook pro does include:

• Smaller Battery

• Reports of three finger gesture malfunction

• Reports of Wifi drop outs.

• USB C ports are shared, not all are full speed.

• 16 GB Ram Limit!!!

• Soldiered on (welded) Memory. Non-removable

• Soldiered on (Non replaceable) HARD DRIVE!! -- if your Hard drive fails, you will have to replace entire computer.

If after reading this you are still considering a Macbook Pro, ask yourself this. What would it take for you NOT to buy one? In other words, if the screen was only black and white.. not rechargeable, etc.. at what point removing features makes it ridiculous for you to consider buying a macbook pro? For me this was it, I am now a Happy owner of a previously used Macbook Pro, and I highly recommend it.

Oh my goodness, Debbie Downer! Umm optical drives, ethernet ports and the such have been gone for a while now. Who really cares? I can't live a life that paranoid over people stealing my credit card over wifi and I don't know anyone who had that happen.

I love my new MBP. It's an amazing machine! Yeah the dongle thing is a bummer but devices will catch up. For the few times I need to use a USB stick or HDMI connection I have an adapter for it. But I rarely need those, I store most files in that cloud that I would need to retreive somewhere else. And I do miss magsafe, I'm hoping to get a 3rd party solution for that. Otherwise this machine is badass and I'm so happy with it.

Dang Sorry to hear that foodbeard! Now here is another factual hopefully not too "Debbie Downer" 😉 issue I have. Look at the Apple service Model. I was told turn around on repairs usually are 72 hrs, (3days) and Foodbeard probably scheduled out his service, but its next week. Imagine if your soldiered in Hard drive fails. You will be without for up to a week. I know if you are a business, this is unacceptable. Prior to this new Macbook Pro, I could have simply had the Hard drive swapped out.. heck I could buy one at any office store or electronics store. Be up in running in hours. No longer is this the case. This troubles me.

It would all depend on what's presented to me at the cost. Yeah if they took a retina screen away or trackpad, sure that's a deal breaker. I know this one is extra spendy but I planned on updrading this cycle and sold my original retina MBP before the announcement. So I forked out a bit more cash than expected but I love this machine, I feel it's worth it. Looking at reviews of high end Windows laptops it doesn't seem people are as pleased as with Macs. And aside from the dongles and magsafe, this is a big jump in the right direction for me. I don't need more than 16Gb of memory and I run multiple VMs with no issue. The SSD is incredibly fast and I'm loving the thinner form factor. It's a gorgeous laptop! Touch bar is cool and for me very useful, nothing revolutionary but a nice touch and better than a boring row of function keys. I think they're marketing to users like me now, I'm somewhat a power user but not in the design field.

Nov 23, 2016 5:51 PM in response to Digitol

Yeah, I ended up scheduling it out further because of the holidays. I actually prefer that Apple soldered on the SSD because the r/w performance is amazing. It also makes for a slimmer laptop. All the laptops where I can easily replace the HDD are very clunky and not what I would consider portable. My only gripe is the three-finger swipe because it's something that I do constantly on the Mac. It seems to me like it's a bug so hopefully there's a speedy resolution.

I'm an independent consultant so not having a working computer for even a day would be disastrous. That's why I don't solely rely on the MBP. Even when using Windows or Linux systems, I have never relied on a single device for work. I think it would be silly to do otherwise.

Nov 23, 2016 8:11 PM in response to darrenchiusw

It is definitively due the palm rejection because your palm rests on the top half of the trackpad and that's the part that doesn't "always" pick the three-finger drag gesture. However, the bottom half of trackpad "always" pick the three-finger drag gesture which is very annoying specially when you draw, copy text, drag windows, or let's say 30% of the trackpad usage 😠.
