Wifi keeps dropping in Windows 10 (BootCamp) on new tbMBP 15"

Keeps dropping and reconnecting. Pretty sure it's not the wifi because on MacOS and my iPhone, both have stable connections. It's probably a driver issue, anyone know a fix?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.1), 2016 15" w/ Touchbar

Look in Bootcamp -> Drivers on the USB to where you download these drivers and run individual executables as desired. You can also look in Bootcamp.xml for detailed versions and driver files.

Hey, I'm new to this thread since I only just downloaded Windows 10 through Bootcamp and have been encountering the same issues with the WiFi.

With the Apple Software Update that just came out a couple of days ago, my connections have been faster and more reliable than before, BUT still seem to be a bit spotty & are still not as fast as they are when I'm running on the Mac OS.

With the new software update, are you guys putting your previously changed settings back to normal? Or are you leaving them changed? I haven't fully gone over each page in this thread, but it might be helpful to just summarize what has and has not helped with solving this issue. I'll keep checking back and updating as well.

I have a new tbMBP13 that I installed Windows 10 Pro onto via Bootcamp, and I was impressed at how insanely easy it was. After the install everything seemed to be working fine - WiFi was stable as I ran Windows Update and took it to version 1607. One thing that was odd was that it wouldn't connect to the 5 Ghz band on my Portal router, but it saw the 2.4 Ghz band so I wasn't too bothered. I was surprised to see a Speedtest.net test showing about half the speed I'd expect to see. I installed nothing else - then things started to get really weird with the WiFi the next day. It would disconnect randomly, and even when it was connected, it was incredibly slow.

I thought at first it was a router issue, but it wouldn't connect to the WiFi hotspot on my iPhone at all. I thought that was odd. I next tried the WiFi hotspot on my Android phone, and that worked like a charm. Smelled like a driver issue to me. I Googled a few descriptions of this problem and saw a lot of guessing, but nothing definitive, so I called Apple support (my first time).

They walked me through a few things - including uninstalling the Broadcom network adaptor and using "Scan for New Hardware" to automatically replace it, and after a reboot it was more stable but very slow. We're talking 0.5 to 1mbps slow. The Apple tech thought it might be an Edge browser problem - because when Edge was reporting no connection, I could still use the Microsoft Store. In retrospect that might have just been deep caching. The Apple tech talked to her peers twice, but in the end the answer was basically "Yeah, well, this is Windows and we don't really support this".

Playing a hunch, I used the Windows 10 reset function - I used the system reset option that kept my files and settings - and after a reboot, wouldn't you know it, the WiFi was working just fine. Completely fast, stable, and I could use both 5Ghz and 2.4 Ghz bands. I noticed that the reset wiped out the Bootcamp drivers - so it seems I'm using a default WiFi driver for the Broadcom chip. WiFi is working great, but the trackpad is terrible now because I can't tap to click or do two-finger right click.

Just tried that process as well, still the same issue. The wifi just resets and says cannot connect. I haven't been able to successfully get it connected on any wifi network or hotspots from my phone. quite a disaster this is. I boot windows 10 off an external ssd, could this be a reason even though I highly doubt that it could be an issue, considering so many people are affected by the same bug.

The only thing I can think of trying at this point is installing an older version of windows 10. or installing windows 8.

Has anyone tried windows 8? or one of the earlier versions of windows 10 without all the updates?

I am thinking that this may be update related. I have seen on other workstations how updates break various things. For example, there were 3 updates that were released by MS that broke Printing to various types of multi-functioning Xerox printers in a networked environment.

If we could install the earliest version of windows 10 with not all of the updates installed, then prevent windows from installing update (metered connection) is the only way I know of how to prevent updates currently, then perhaps we can narrow this down to a windows update.

the first person to report this was way back in Nov. We are in Feb now, and the problem still seems to exist, or has gotten worse. I am not too sure of it being a windows update problem spanning across nearly 3 months. However, let me rollback to a windows 8 machine and see. However, this problem has been around for a while now, and that should be no excuse to roll back when its existed for 3 months.

To respond to your point, Yes it should be fixed by now, but it isnt.

So as a point of troubleshooting, we have to narrow down what works from what does not.

As apparently we are the only ones working on trying to fix it.

I share your pain, as I spent 5 K on this laptop (the Highest spec model I could build)

So lets try a few things to narrow down the problem, and we can Isolate it further.

just did the entire process of re-install with a windows 10 ISO (probably one of the later ones downloaded in Jan) and the exact same issue, even when I said don't install the broadcomm driver. I believe we might be narrowing down to a windows 10 update (one of the later ones) but still definitely something which essentially requires a fix.

Feb 2, 2017 10:32 AM in response to Yogeewan

however, the broadcomm driver that got installed automatically on mine was 7.35.118.64 with a driver date of Sep 2016. I will try connecting a LAN cable to my router later and see if I can see any windows update for the driver. However, still very skeptical of the fact, considering I have wiped out my windows at least more than 10 times trying different solutions 🙂
