My forward slash key produces a '+' instead of a ' / '

I'm a newbie to Numbers and trying to write a simple formula but can't do division because the forward slash key doesn't enter a forward slash.

OS X El Capitan

Version 10.11.6

Hi Nc,

The automatic substitution of ÷ for / and × for * is built in, and, to my knowledge, there's no user option to change it. (btw, that × is the multiplication sign, not a lower case letter x .)

Assuming that the keyboard works properly on other apps, let's try this: hold down the command and option keys while starting Numbers. Let us know if that helps.

Yes it's a bluetooth keyboard Stuart, but so is the mouse. If I turn off bluetooth I won't be able to do anything?
