News stories not saving for reading later from Apple Watch to iPhone

I am not aware of a solution for this issue. I suggest that you log it with Apple. Options for doing so include:

You may find that the issue is resolved under the latest software versions.

If you have not yet done so, follow the instructions below to update both your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone (be sure to make a backup first):

• Update the software on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

I have this problem too. In a chat session I had with Apple support, it is by design. You have to have the paired iPhone unlocked to save an article back to it. With the iPhone unlocked the saved for later articles show up right way in News on the iPhone.

Same problem! Works sometimes, but doesn't other times. It's annoying and it's not like I can open up Apple News and that article will show front and center as well.

Please fix this! I have also raised a Bug Report, but not sure when it'll be reviewed.

Thanks for clarifying this with Apple support. This is a bit strange though given that when you have the iPhone unlocked the notification pops up on the iPhone itself and anyone can simply save the article from there.

The point I hope they fix is that when you are away from your iPhone and you get an Apple Watch news notification, you should be able to save it from there and read the article later once you get back to your phone.

Really hope they fix this!

I have this problem too,. The notification pops up, I click save for later since I cannot always read it all the time. The story is never there. What is hte point of of save for later then? This needs to be fixed even if the phone is locked. Unlocking you lose the banner message anyway... DEfeating the purpose of having the msg.... Please fix this!

This insane. What's the point of this feature if I have to unlock my phone and can just click on the notification there? Why go back to the watch?

If my phone is locked it should NOT even be an option if it can't save it.

The watch can obviously communicate with the phone. How hard would it be to have the watch tell the phone to dismiss the notification on both devices, and then put the article in Saved?

How did this not get included the minute the save feature was introduced? And now after multiple complaints and feedback, it's still not possible???

This was first logged over 18 months ago and still nothing.

I had the same problem. Here is the fix to this.

in the Apple Watch app go to "Notifications", scroll down until you find "News" (the Apple News App) then make sure notifications is clicked On.

then it will work next time you click "save for later" on a News story on the Watch

I had this issue too. I saw that someone else said to try something on a similar issue post. It seems to have fixed it so far...

Go to the Apple Watch app on your phone. Go to Notifications - News. I had it on, but set to Mirror iPhone. I switched it to Custom and now it seems to be working as it should. If I get a watch notification and press Save for Later, it actually puts it under my Saved articles

In the iPhone app now.

This worked for me - go to your iPhone Settings, iCloud, News “app using iCloud” - deselect it, allow it to delete content on your phone, then re-select the News app.

Now everything I “save for later” on my Watch is correctly listed in the News app under “Saved”.

Works in News app but not from a notification. Attached photo is in News app. Very frustrating to see this and a few other bugs on fine details.

I have the same thing happening. I get the notification on my watch and read the headlines, then click save for later. I go to my News app on my phone and it never appears.

Same here, but this has never worked. Pretty annoying.

Same for me as of 1/30/17 - some appear, but many do not.

Thanks - I have already logged it with Apple before. It's a bit frustrating when you can't find that interesting article again, that you thought you "Saved".

Hope this is fixed soon.
