any idea what error 3503 is?

I was updating my iPad to the latest iOS version and the install crashed. whenever I'm trying to reset the iPad I get a message from after it extracted the firmware that the iPad couldn't be restored and that an unknown error occurred (3503). Any clue ?

It's an issue with the TSS server. It gives the following output:

Sending TSS request attempt 1... TSS server returned: <html>

<head><title>403 Forbidden</title></head>

<body bgcolor="white">

<center><h1>403 Forbidden</h1></center>

<hr><center>Shield</center>

</body>

</html>

Basically, it's on Apple's side. It's NOT an issue with your devices. Just wait a little while for them to fix it.

Yesterday I had this issue trying to update my brothers iPad, looked online and called apple no help, then today I had to tranfer a file to Android tablet and noticed when I plugged it in it gave a low power USB message, plugged iPad (that was already in DFU mode, so google if you don't know how) into back port on my desktop and restored fine. Hope this helps others.

I was dealing with the same issue and since I am in urgent need of my ipad I was able to download this software (http://www.iphone-ipad-recovery.com/recover-ipad-data-and-get-out-of-recovery-mo de.html). Once downloaded on my PC, I chose the option to restore from recovery mode/black screen and my ipad wasnt recognized immediately, but upon a second try my ipad came out of recovery mode and I was happy to see my lock screen and no deleted apps! I hope I was able to help someone 🙂

I too got the error 3503 trying to update my iPad when connected to a Windows system. After reading the 4 pages of the thread, I tried running the update from a different computer (a Macbook Air with Sierra 10.12.4 and iTunes 12.7.0.166) as was suggested in one of the posts and while it seemed to go rather slowly, it did work! My iPad is now functioning again! Good luck everyone!

I solved the issue without dodgy 3rd party tools mate. I bought a used iPhone 6, but couldn't restore from iTunes back up, due to not have IOS 11. I couldn't update to IOS 11 via iTunes/Windows 10 due to error 3503. I tried DFU mode with no avail. I held down the Home and Sleep buttons to get out of DFU mode and went to Settings /General/Software Update and successfully updated without connecting my iphone to the PC without the lightning cable. This enabled me to reconnect to iTunes and restore from back up.

Hope that helps some of you 😀

SOLUTION---------

I had this problem all day yesterday. Spent several hours speaking with Apple and tried to restore from iTunes on 3 different Windows PC's with no luck.

Today, I asked a co-worker to use their Mac, signed into my iTunes account, performed a restore from a previous backup and now it is working!!! Try using a Mac and see if it works for you!

Another guy suggested using a program to take your ipod, iphone, ipad out of recovery mode, have attempted this on all 3 types of devices and has worked each time. http://www.iphone-ipad-recovery.com/downloads/ios-system-recovery.exe

Use windows link, download, install, go to device tab at bottom and press the first option on the screen to take your device out of recovery mode to make it usable until apple fixes the update error 3503.
