MacBook Pro late 2016 battery discharging when shut down

Are there any news? Same issue here. 20% decrease in 4days....

Was this update to high Sierra through a clean install with erasing and updating or with your existing setup in place?

I am not sure if this is possible, but make sure it is not connected to a power source via the USB C charger. It may be causing it to come on after you shut it off. I am having the same issue. My MacBook Pro 2016 with touchbar was at 86 percent after about two or three days. Maybe try turning off the wifi and the bluetooth before turning it off. That is what I am going to try tonight. I am only at a battery cycle of six and I am planning on keeping it as low as possible. Hopefully that will help!

Thank you, please keep us posted. So far I have done SMC reset, turned off Fast Startup in Windows 10 (I have bootcamp installed), turned off bluetooth which sometimes turns back on after restart. I havent tried turning wifi off before shutdown yet. I have also calibrated battery by doing full charge/discharge cycle. On average I lose 2-3% every 48 hrs or 1-2% every 24 hours. Batteries self-discharge on averge 1-2% per month but after several days of reading through similar threads I am slowly starting to believe that self discharge of 1% per 24 hours while off could be normal just not enough user feedback to confirm that.

I have had the same issue with my 2016 MacBook Pro non-touchbar. I shut down the computer and within 18 hours I lose 2-3% battery per the meter and 100-150 maH between uses. I took it to the Apple Store today and they ran diagnostics. Everything came back normal and the Genius Bar rep said this was normal. I told him my girlfriend's 2013 MacBook Pro doesn't drain 1 percentage point under the same conditions. They sent my computer away at my request for further evaluation. I'll see what happens next week.

I,have the same problem.

My MacBook Pro (13" late 2016 with Touch Bar, 17 charging cycles) is draining about 6% battery per 24 hours when completely switched off using shutdown (in standby mode with lid closed, the battery drains is about 15% per 24 hours).

I had many MacBooks by the past but it's the first time I encounter this behavior.

After several tests, the Apple Store Genius said my battery health is OK and then asked Apple engineering. The answer was: normal behaviour with the new hardware generation.

Not convinced (I have a Surface Pro with "new hardware" and no battery draining problem when switched off), I asked for a second set of tests in comparative mode (with other machines).

Battery drain when switched off has been confirmed with a machine identical to mine (6%) and a MacBook without Touch Bar (4-5%).

I am very surprised about the results. How a machine can stay "up to 30 days in standby time" if it lots 6% per day when switched off (and then completely discharged in 17 days), and two or thee times more in standby mode?

I don't understand their explanation either. If the battery should last 30 days in standby mode, it should not drain that much while shut down. The Apple rep at the Genius Bar said that's it normal because the battery loses capacity over usage. I get that it will not last as long with usage but that doesn't mean it should lose 2-3% while off. It just means it won't last as long while on and being used. My girlfriends 2013 MacBook Pro has approximately 260 cycles and doesn't lose one percentage point while off after 24 hours.

Did Apple send your laptop away for further testing and give you the response that your experience is normal? I am waiting for mine to come back to see what they say but I think it'll be along the same lines as what you heard.

I tried turning the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off before I shut the MacBook down and it had no difference. I lose easily six to seven percent of my battery charge per day or twenty four hour period. I now keep it plugged in all the time, even when it is turned off. This need a to be fixed, because my fear is within a few years, the MacBook battery will be useless anyways.

No, and they gave me back my computer saying they could not do anything because, for them, the situation is normal comparing to other machines of the same generation.

They can change my battery but I have to pay because no hardware problem has been detected (and thus not covered by warranty).

The genius technician thinks that some hardware is not shudown properly (like touch bar components), and perhaps requires a firmware update, but not available for the moment.

I ran several clean OS installation, many configuration changes and I always note the same problem. Otherwise, the terminal command 'pmset -g log' shows that there is no activity when my computer is switched off... And to finish, my battery has less than 20 charging cycles...

All of these sound very strange. Please, keep me informed about your situation.

I carried out some tests in sleep mode (by closing the lid) with the smallest possible energy footprint.

I disabled :
- Wake for Wi-Fi network access
- Power Nap
- iCloud Drive
- Find My Mac
- TCPKeepAlive (sudo pmset -b tcpkeepalive 0)

I enabled :
- Turn on Do Not Disturb when the display is sleeping

Within a 24-hour period, I observed (with pmset -g log) only one darkware, three hours after closing the lid, to turn the mac in hibernate mode.

After these 24 hours, the battery was discharged about 6% (1% for the first three hours)... So the result is identical as completely shutting down the Mac...

So, I'm sure that something, like a hardware component, is draining the battery when the Mac is completely off.

Agree with you. There should not be any loss of power when the MBP is shut down. But out of curiosity, over how long in total have you tested it. Sometimes the battery power indicator is not 100% accurate.

I find that mine can lose about 1% after a full charge over a few minutes because of background activity. Do you shut it down immediately after a full charge is registering?
