MacBook Pro late 2016 battery discharging when shut down

Hello,

I have a new MacBook Pro (late 2016) without the Touch Bar and I'm experiencing the following problem: When the laptop is shut down (no sleep mode, no power nap), the battery is discharging with 1% every 3-4 hours in average. Usually this should not happen as there should be no consumers when completely shut down.

I have also a MacBook Air (2015) and a late 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina (first gen) and the batteries are not discharging when the computers are shut down.

Any similar experiences, any advices ?

Thank you.

Hi,

After several calls with Apple Care, the engineering answer was always the same: the 5% / 24h discharge when the computer is completely off is the expected behaviour !

But good news...

After updating to High Sierra this monday, my MacBook Pro didn't discharge when off since 3 days ! 0% / 24 h !

Contrary to what Apple says, there was indeed a bug with Sierra.

I'm going to do some test in sleep mode now.

Then the machine is still under warranty and as a member of the EU, you may find that you can return it for refund or exchange if you have had it for less than 28 days. Clearly it has to have been bought from an official source. Check out if 28 days is the official time with your local advisory services; it does vary around the world according to national legislation. The EU is regarded as one country.

So... update. I went to the Apple reseller I bought the computer from and it took half a day from the moment I entered the shop until I got a new unit. Everything went like it should, and the guys from where I bought the computer won me for the rest of my "Apple odyssey".

Unfortunately I also have bad news. Although now both USB-C port are charging, I still think that the battery is discharging when the computer is shut down. Not as fast as before (I think that was also due to an electrical problem related to the fact that one of the ports was not charging), but still I got 2% over 20 hours of inactivity. I'm getting around 10-12 hours of uptime on battery, the computer is working great, so I think I'm gonna settle with this "small" problem. Probably along the way, Apple will acknowledge that they have a problem with the battery and the second gen of this MacBook Pro will address this issue.
