Sierra Scroll Wheel Not Functioning

not experiencing it with my trusty and very dirty Mac Mouse, nor my Microsoft Intellimouse on two different systems 10.11, nor does the two systems I just built and deployed using a Magic Mouse 2 and a Lenovo USB mouse doing anything like this.

not seeing anything that scream get me off but I would consider getting rid of Spotify for office computers and anything with an SSD

and your google apps, google can tend to write apps that have no concern with besieging a CPU for no apparent reason.

I would also advise against things like USB Overdirve in a production environment. OS X already can manage USB devices and you are looking to a developer who is circumventing functionality from what Apple has developed and he is not working in conjunction with Apple and his testing may not be concurrent with the OS or with your Applications you are working with. For home do what you want but I personally stay clear of this stuff for production.

Aside from that you appear to be running some sort of USB dongle.

if the problem does not reappear the conflict is one or a combination of devices connected to the Mac, the next step would be to reintroduce one component at a time and reboot each time. If you can determine the cause you should speak with the developer solely because if it's 10.12.1 doing this Apple is NOT going to fix their OS for 3rd party problems anytime soon for anyone.

FWIW, I'm not sure why Jimmy recommended getting rid of Spotify seeing as was printed in very large letters the issue with Spotify and SSDs was resolved and has nothing to do with scroll wheels in any case. So it goes here.

Spotify can produce unnecessary network overhead for an office and without knowing if the other system used HD or SSD, or if you updated Spotifiy or were using an older version I recommend removing it as I had latency with i7 iMacs and getting rid of Spotify cleared it on systems.

If you can get the computer back to as close to a factory boot as possible and see if the problem was addressed then re-adding 3rd party software as you go it might give some hint as to what is causing this.

What's causing it is apparently a bug in Sierra which affects third-party mice. As you pointed out, Apple mice have no such problem.

The link I posted mentions the bug seems to be fixed in the latest Sierra beta. I can't check because I have no third-party mice.

I can check and I already have 3rd party mice running in Sierra 10.12.1 in a production environment and no one has reported this problem, I just deployed two system this week with MS mice running 10.12.1, they are working as expected, and they replaced Lenovo mice I gave out while I was waiting the for the MS mice to ship and the users reported no problem, the Lenovo's are not a graphic artist device of choice and that was the only reason I pulled them.

Your linked post had one response in 3 months so if that is enough for you to draw the conclusion the OS is at fault thats' your assessment, but I'm not seeing this in at least three systems; one that I personally use constantly so I'm thinking there may be a 3rd party issue to those effected, and the sole response in the link you provide was a mention the USBOverdrive which the OP mentioned as having installed, and I suggested be removed to test.

If you wish to discuss the merits of the beta please do so in the developer forum so this thread doesn't become a TOS violation.

Jimmy, just to clarify. There have been a number of posts about problems with slow scrolling with third-party mice. I use the wired Apple Mouse with the scroll button on all my iMacs and I can scroll one pixel at a time. I forgot my g/f has a cheap mouse with a scroll wheel. It has the same issue as described here and elsewhere on Sierra. I checked it on the latest dev version of Sierra but since you reminded me, I won't mention the results.

I simply can't duplicate it. I'm not seeing this issue on old (Mac Pro's 5,1) or new hardware (2015 i7 iMacs) so I don't know what to make of why my findings are different.

Well, the more I work with Sierra and users the more it seems there is some randomness unrelated to software conflicts. For example I have six installs of Sierra, 2 clean, 2 dirty and 2 dev. None of them show the display settings for the keyboard shortcuts yet I created a Sierra VM and it does. It seems many others don't see the display settings yet some do. It's a mystery. 😎

the 10.12.2 update is publicly available from Apple now and if that was not enough my Apple USB Mouse I swapped for my MS mouse on my work system is now a complete crap shoot in 10.12.1 when I try to scroll.

While the 10.12.2 update did not specify a fix for mice I am downloading it now
