Ios 10.2 draining battery FAST!

Same here. I went to my local Apple store and the guy who helped me basically reset my phone, wiped my info and back to way I first purschased it. But the battery still drains in about 8-10 hours with out using it. I used it like 2 hours. I too went to buy a brand new battery From Frys and installed it but I'm still getting the same results. I'm seriously considering getting another phone but it won't be an apple phone :(

Hey Tim Cook, fire your IOS developers or whoever is responsible for this battery issue. It's not up to us to figure out what the **** is wrong with our iPhone. I expect an apology from Apple for their incompetence.

Yes, that's about it. I updated iPhone 6 to 10.2, that's when the problems occurred. Then updated to 10.2.1, problems persisted. I called Apple tech support. They ran the diagnostic on the battery, which showed it to be good. Tech support suggested I take the phone in to a store. I backed up as Apple suggests before going to the store. The Apple store genius reset the phone to new. (Restoring data and downloaded apps was not a big problem.) Immediately after the reset to new, battery still draining 1% a minute. Went home and recharged to full. Now battery is working, not perfect, but back to the way it was before 10.2. (Apple owes its customers an apology and an explanation.)

I think I have the same problem. I have an iPhone 6plus running IOS 10.2. It has been fine n 10.2 until two days ago when I started receiving the IOS 10.2.1 update harassing messages. On both nights since then my battery has drained overnight. On the first night it went from 60something% to 5% and then shutdown when I attempted to se it.

Last night I made sure no apps were running when I went to bed and noted the battery at 54%. After exactly 8 hours my alarm woke me and the battery was down to 11%. As I started to check that my settings had not changed I saw the battery drain FAST before my eyes at a rate of approx 1% per minute.

I have do-not disturb set during the evening and I use all the recommended battery saving settings all the time except that I allow my apps to upgrade automatically. However, the upgrade setting has been like that for along time and I do not believe it is the cause. I am puzzled as to the cause of the problem but I suspect the upgrade harassment messages are part of it.

I will report back after I have upgraded 10 10.2.1.

I had same problem. Power off by pressing the power button and home button at the same time. Hold until phone goes off then turn it on again. Did this yesterday and still have charge on phone like it should be.

iPhone 7 updated to iOS 10.2.1 now has severe battery drain! Rogers in Canada. Had no problem prior. Within an hour (only used phone for 5 minute call) went down to 10%!!!! Figure this out Apple! Phone unusable!

I have been following this 30% battery issue for several months and have reached the following conclusion:

The battery life percent indicator is not accurate. Safely charging Li-Ion batteries is a very complex process; it is especially sensitive to the ambient temperature and the temperature of the battery itself. I suspect the infinite wisdom at Apple managed to change (CYA) the charging algorithm in the wake of the exploding Samsung disaster. My iphone 6 used to get quite warm in normal operation and especially when charging. I noticed my phone runs cooler after installing IOS 10.1.

The internal temperature sensor device in my phone has never worked correctly. Using it in cold ambient (less than 40deg F) would cause the charge percentage indicator to plummet from 90% to shut down in a very few minutes; however, if a power hungry app was open, running and consuming power the time to shutdown was greatly extended. Probably due to discharge self heating. There are some curious similarities with the 30% battery shut-down problem and low temperature operation.

So, Apple inadvertently hobbled many phones with the IOS10 update; I suspect the root cause to be defective or non-linear temperature sensors combined with normal battery degradation. Obviously Apple will NEVER admit this defect. Of course Apple marketing sees this a grand opportunity to sell the uninformed and frustrated customer a brand new iphone 7..... brilliant!!

My PIA remedy: Frequently discharge the phone to 20% or less, reboot and always have a external battery nearby.

Sorry to hear that. If Apple ran that battery diagnostic for you and the battery showed still good (in the green), then I'm at a loss why it didn't work for you. A final thought, while at the genius bar, the person helping me said (1) I could replace the battery for $80, (2) I could get a refurbished iPhone 6 for $300 plus my old one, or (3) they would give me credit for my phone, which was in good shape, towards the purchase of a new iPhone. I didn't take them up on it.

I was wondering why the issue doen't in Ipad.

I've mini iPad 2 and no issue with it.

So, I don't believe in "Ios 10 works only with iphone7 because it has got 4 core"

In any way 4 months in this situation is not acceptable, Goodbye dear apple

Reporting back as promised…

After I upgraded to 10.2.1 I got the following battery % when I went to bed and when I awoke (approx 6.5 hours)

71% down to 52%

64% down to 34%

Not great, but an improvement.

So suspecting that the upgrade might have messed-up my various Settings I checked all the usual suspects.

I found that the activity monitoring app “Pacer” had been using 29% of the battery in the last 24 hours.

During the entire 24 hours I had not run the Pacer app but I then remembered that I had set the Allow Pacer To Access Location to “Always”.

At which point everyone reading this says, “Aha!”.

The strange thing is, I had set that option approximately 2.5 weeks earlier as I have been walking to and from work (healthy January).

Looking more closely at battery usage also showed that Pacer had used 22% of the battery in the previous 7 days.

Therefore, something triggered the massive battery drain but because the problem had only occurred for two days, I do not think Pacer was the culprit.

I can only conclude that the upgrade harassment messages were the trigger.

Now, with the upgrade to 10.2.1 and every possible and all apps set-up for battery saving (no backgrounds refreshes, no locations settings, very restricted choices for Spotlight Search and System Services.

I get bedtime and morning battery percentage of 84% down to 79% so I am happy the problem is resolved.

System Services were a new one to me. If you are not familiar:

Update:

After a number of battery charge/discharge cycles (5 - 10) this appears to have rectified itself. This has followed a significant number of extremely rapid discharges (2-3 hours) with the battery getting very warm.

A number of people in this thread have discussed battery state calibration and I have to wonder if the upgrades cause this to be reset or out of synch and takes the charge/discharge cycles to resynch it. I say upgrades (plural) because I experienced similar activity in at least one, if not more previous upgrades.by Appl

Either way it needs to be remedied by Apple.

10.2.1 made my battery life on iphone 6s plus 128 gb space grey worse, my family has a 4, 4s, 5s, 3 6's a 7 and a 6s plus, the 4, 4s, and 5s actually still work and have never had the battery replaced and get better battery life than the 6s plus and 2 of the 6's. One thing I can't stand is the card that apple employees and others feel they need to read off of that explain how to fix the problem and that maybe it can relate to heavy usage or too many charging cycles.... Well my phone use has drastically dropped with every release of the next phone because well I am just getting older and focusing on more of reality than just my phone, I don't understand why batteries seem to be getting worse with every ios update and with every release of a new iphone. The iphone 4s and 5s have shown to me to have a far better shelf life than a 6 or 6s plus. Let's just admit that the care put into these products is not the same and I appreciate when companies take accountability and help out someone who has been a loyal customer spending $5000 more on products who really just want a battery replaced.

Hands up if you think any of these battery tips will actually help the battery problem apple has, its not your fault for using the phone the way you want to, I have had a 4, 4s, 5s, 3 6's, a 7 and a 6s plus. These tips may help "a few" but the real problem is something else. The iphone 6 gets pretty hot then the next update the phone doesn't get hot but the battery life ***** then the next update it just fails completely and drains within 1 hour of use. The iphone 6s plus got worse with ios 10.2 and waaaaaay worse with 10.2.1. Something tells me its a flaw in the build cause the 4s and 5s I have were used waaaaay more heavily and still have waaaay better battery life, and please spare me apple store and support when you tell me that I am using my phone wrong. It is like with every release of each phone and ios update I can do less and less because if I do more the phone dies quicker. Just give us our batteries especially those of us that have been loyal, or just **** us off more until people don't want to interact with you anymore

Try this it worked for me

Backup your phone to cloud/itunes/or your computer. When backed up go to settings/ general/reset. When reinstalling select set up as new phone go through set up procedure.once finished leave for approximately 1 hour. Then reset again but this time setup from backup.this worked for me

Hey Apple, There is something going on here. There are way too many people with the same issue for it to be there data. I was asked to completely default my phone and try it for a few hours. If it seems better, then it must be in my data. That of course did not appear before the updates.

I completely drained the phone on Thursday evening and continually would try to turn it on for it to show 6-7% battery and shut off the next few hours. Overnight completely charged it to full and left it on the charger until about noon. Then no charger. It starts out slowly draining and then at some point (not using it with the screen on) it went from around 70% to 21%. Since the 10.2 update I have also watched it drain about 40-50% while running App Update All over the course of 15 minutes or so. This never happened before.

I would hate to have to delete all of my iMessage threads and start all over because of a software problem. This does not happen (that it seems) on my iPad.
