Error -36 launching files from time capsule

I did the same thing and it didn't work. Try reformatting another drive and putting one file on that drive and connecting it to the TC. It worked for me. Seems that the drive needs to be reformatted after 10.12.2. This didn't happen to me before that update.

I am having the same issue with some pdf files. They work when I drag them to my desktop but I get the Error -36 when opening from my Time Capsule.

It's more painless than reverting back to 10.12.1.

I have the same problem as yours.

There must be a bug inside 10.12.2

RyJl's work around was to open apps that aren't opening by using open dialog from within the app. That worked for me. I also noted that in the finder dialog some apps will still not open and so I hit quick preview and they did open. Just some very odd issues here.

I have the same issue since upgrading to 10.12.2. All files on my afp-Drive (Time Machine) can not be directly opened by clicking them in Finder -> Error Code -36.

But: If I copy the files to my local HDD or use a different application for opening (e.g. VLC for an avi) everything works fine !

Apple: please help to eliminate this bug.

How do I open something using open dialog? I've never heard of that. Also, is that something that needs to be done every time or just once then all the other files will work normally?

I'm faced with the same issue - directly after the OS update to 10.12.2.

Did try to analys the strange manner and so far I could find only one workaround:

Connect the TC manually (via SMB).

Finder -> Connect Server -> smb://server name or IP (enter password if needed)

Seems, that the OS connects the TC by default via 'afp' and there is something incorrect with the access rights (as the icons/shortcuts) at the desktop are different.

Anyway, via 'smb' I can access my files as usual.

How did you connect the TC to the computer? Did you do it via USB or through an ethernet connection?

Wi-fi or ethernet. TC USB doesn't allow connection to PC only other disks.

I have this same issue! Why would Apple take more than a month to fix this? Obviously is affecting all of us! Is there a way to make them take urgency on this matter?

Apple's Update to macOS Sierra 10.12.3 came out today and fixed the problem on my computers with files in TC.

I was having this same issue recently as well. I just updated my iOS software last night (1-28-2017) and everything is back to normal now.
