com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.Service quit unexpectedly
why do i keep getting a problem report saying com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.Service quit unexpectedly.
MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)
Sorry to be a pain but where is the /private..etc etc folders?
Use "Go to Folder". It's hidden.
This will delete the SafeBrowsing database for anyone without your having to dig through folders.
Open Terminal and enter:
sudo -i
cd `find /private/var/folders -iname "*safari.safebrowsing*"`
rm Google/*
Enter your password after the sudo command. Note the back-ticks in the cd command. Those are important. Best to copy and paste.
The database will be recreated automatically.
Having the same problem on my 2014 mac mini just started since update, I updated my MBP 2012 also and not have that problem with the update, trying to figure what I added to my Mac Mini thats causing it. Same Sierra Ver and Safari Ver in both. Tried deleting safari cache, cookies, know help.
Bitfender found a virus in biblioteek/application support/google/chrome/external extensions : named something like hipbi....
delete and new start.
problem solved!!!
Thanks - located and deleted files. Fingers crossed eh?

That is unrelated to this issue. After a reboot the problem disappears for a while, and then returns. You are not seeing it right away because of the reboot.
Mine say NO SUCH FILES OR DIRECTORY. 😟
indeed it is back again
Had the same problem and this is exactly what I did step by step (running macossierra):
1. Closed all safari windows
2. Cleared History
3. Cleared all cookies (safari/preferences/privacy/manage website data/remove all)
4. Closed safari and restarted my MBP
Haven't had the message appear, but still showing in the preferences security tab section "the google safe browsing service is unavailable. no updates have occured in 1days".
OK so I deleted the files in the /private/var...etc which stopped the problem for a while. But then it appeared again, checked the folder and these files had reappeared -
malware,osx,url_expression
social_engineering,osx,url_expression
unwanted_software,osx,url_expression
Not good 😟
happening here too, all day since installing 10.12.3 public beta 1. odd, it's not happening on my macbook pro, only my 12" macbook (both on the same OS, with the same settings and extensions).
i don't have a google folder in the private/var folder, and i've emptied the cache, rebooted, cleared history... etc.
odder still... it's suddenly NOT happening. perhaps an issue at google's end???
I'm having the same problem in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It started three hours ago. I've cleared the memory cache and restarted the iMac (MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.1) but it doesn't seem to work. Please Help! This is extremely annoying!!
